| | | The late Steve Irwin! Thought this may be of interest to some.
It has just been reported on the news that Steve Irwin has been killed while out filming. As the following article mentions, this was after he was stung by a Stingray. http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...222051512.html |

Allthough not to everyone's taste he will be sadly missed by those that love wildlife.
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
R.I.P Steve

| | | Re: The late Steve Irwin! Watching Steve make some incredible television during the past ten years, I always had the uneasy feeling that this day had to come sooner or later…but it has done nothing to soften the enormous blow of hearing this very sad news this morning. I’d need to use every superlative to describe my admiration for this incredible man and the enormous contribution that he has made to promoting and protecting wildlife.
Millions of kids around the world will be extremely upset by this news and I personally think that children have lost one of their greatest role models. Inspired by such an incredible energy and enthusiasm for life, his legacy will live on in the generations of children who now share his passion for wildlife and conservation, but the world is definitely a poorer place this morning.
RIP Steve |

A sad loss, and thoughts are with his family.

He really made a name for himself and our world by spreading the importance of conservation in a new and exciting way. Although only 44 he lived life more than most would do in several lifetimes. Thanks to Steve we will see many more youngster get into conservation.
There has been many to try and copy Steve Irwin, but there was only one.
R.I.P Steve, you will be missed by many.

| | | Re: The late Steve Irwin! I was shocked when I heard about it on GMTV. At least his death was extaordinary, (I mean this with respect) because he was only one of two to die that way. Fitting in a way because he was different to everyone else.
It is a sad loss as he was passionate about what he did.

Agree with all, it is a shame about Steve, but he dead doing what he loved best.
No he was not a presenter that covered wildlife in Britain, but he helped people around the world understand the environment and problems animals faced daily.
His unique style of showmanship might not have been to everyone’s liking, sometimes wonder if this was Steve or if it was done to spice up the show a bit, but if it got the message through great.
He gave his life for what he believed in, what an epitaph to have.
RIP
Mick

| | | Re: The late Steve Irwin! Sadly, inevitable at some point. Steve's tremendos courage and love of wildlife and total enthusiasm is not in question but I don't think you can confront wild animals with such directness without bearing the brunt of it at some point. A softly softly approach is so much wiser for all concerned.
As The Beeb report says "Stingrays only sting in defence, they're not aggressive animals so the animal must have felt threatened. It didn't sting out of aggression, it stung out of fear," Dr Bryan Fry, Deputy Director of the Australian Venom Research Unit at the University of Melbourne said. |

RIP Poor Steve Irwin, i really loved his shows and its such a tragic way to die. He has a wife and 2 kids, i know he knew the risks but life can be so hard and tough sometimes.
I hope he didnt die in vain, I hope the zoo continues to run and that crocs will be saved still and that no one harms stingrays because of this.
Good thing we have memories on TV but we will miss him dearly. I hope his website comes up again soon, its been down for a long time. I have also signed up last year for Steve Irwin updates and got several telling me what happened.

Those who felt his hands-on approach was over the top would do well to remember he was a trained animal handler...and also David Attenborough started off wrestling Giant Anteaters on Zooquest.
A sad, sad, loss. I'll miss him |

| | | Re: The late Steve Irwin! I feel strangely sad at this, normally don't care when celebrities die.
I will miss his totally barking TV shows, particularly his lack of understanding of why the King Cobra is so annoyed (...you've just pulled it backwards by it's tail out of the hole it was dozing in and are now swinging it around by the tail whilst shoving a film camera in it's face so of course it is not very pleased with you, Mr Irwin).... Great entertainment and a brilliant way of highlighting environmental issues.
And the film he produced was so appalling I watched it twice. Bonza! |

Though I didn't always like the "in your face style", there is no doubt he cared passionately about wildlife, particularly reptiles, + probably inspired many youngsters to realise that the natural world was exciting. A sad loss to conservation + condolences to his equally committed wife + 2 boys. |
