Smiling cow

I went along one of my favourite places today which is the River Otter. As I walked by in a field I saw a Heron amongst a herd of cows.I tried to get a little closer very carefully but although he wasnt spooked by the cows he was by me.I swear this cow was laughing at me

I must admit being wary going through a field of cows on a public footpath but they are very curious creatures. If they came to near i would shout and stamp my foot and they would just turn away

Re: Smiling cow

I know. it was just so funny the way you phrased it. I have been chuckling all morning picturing you running between fields with a laughing cow hot on your trail.

Re: Smiling cow

I don't do cows cherrybee, they are a lovely animal but I'm frightened to death of them ever since I was chased by a not very happy young bullock a few years ago so now any animal which chases me is off my christmas card list. He certainly does look like he is laughing at you though

Re: Smiling cow

It looks like a "he", look at that beard and that belligerent "You want some?" expression.
They're a nuisance I tell you. I was trying to photograph some orchids earlier in the year, a gang of them rushed me and chased me out of the field. I wasn't scared or anything, they just took me by surprise

Re: Smiling cow

Yes you don't wont to turn your back on them!

I was photographing some plants a couple of years ago while being surrounded by the herd. I happened to put my sunglasses down for a moment to look in the viewfinder, and promply forgot about them. After shooing my way out of the gathered audience, I continued on my way, but a hundred yards away, rememberd I forgot my glasses. I went back only to find them covered in goo after a couple of the cows took an interest in them by mouthing them.....yuk!

Whether they were trying put them on I don't know, but they did seem very cool cows

Yes. If you know are going to cross a field full of cows, take a news paper, they are very inquisitive but slow and the paper will occupy them whilst you make your way out of the herd

Beryl, I never knew cows could read and I would like to know which newspaper they prefer just in case I am ever brave enough to go within 50ft of them and I'll take their favourite newspaper, it will probably be on a Sunday so they'll have plenty to occupy themselves with the Sunday suppliment as well
