I'm not sure I could shoot something live either unless I really had to to eat.
However, I'm certain I'd rather eat a deer that's been running about in the woods living as it pleases than a fat piglet reared in a shed stood on 18inches of dung and death, pumped up with growth hormones and god know what else..... |

I was a staff car driver in the WRNS CinC Portsmouth and then CinC Home fleet for 5 years. Started on utilicons , only for 4 monthe then I stayed on staff cars (lucky me) Good job I didn't need English, did certainly need maths.
Poor Boddie, we have left his thread on trail of deer or was it chuckiechambes thread? |

| | | Re: Boddie?? I see now. Is it the deer that is up and running with it's mother with in an hour os of birth?
I see the wildlife progs about preditoars and of course it's all in nature but of here as you say we don't have lions and tigers etc so yes, they don't have any other amimal preying on them.
Thanks for that info I can see thing from a different point now |

Suckling first occurs within an hour or so of birth. |

I was watching a prog the other night and I was certain they said , dear are up and running shorly after birth. They also have a poweful kick, so never a good idea to try to console an injured on unless one really know what one is doing. They get srtessed quicky too. You see I have never seen the other side of the deer progs only the sort of 'Ahhhh there lovely' progs so I am greatful for all the info. Really.
Thank you |

| | | Re: Boddie?? No worries Beryl. There is 'sposed to be a program coming out this autumn on (I think) channel 4 called 'Wild Thing I Think I Love You', presented by Bill Baily. It will look at deer & road traffic accidents. Why the deer cross roads when they do (looking into their daily/seasonal biology & feeding habits), some of it was filmed on the New Forest & I nearly got on it helping with a conservation job, but decided the way they were filming it was a bit fake & stayed out of the way. Should be interesting to watch though.
Sorry for highjacking your thread Chunky C. |

Yes sorry Chunky C it was my fault for being inquisitive but I have learned quite a bit and that is one of this site's reasons.
