What would you like to find?

Is there any particular species of bird/insect/mammal/plant/fungi etc that you would like to discover or rediscover when it was thought extinct in Britain? Mine would be the Dainty Damselfly that was made extinct in Essex in the 1953 flood.

I'd also like to discover my own dinosaur-but that's a different subject!

Re: What would you like to find?

Hi
I would like to see wolves, I know they keep on about introducing them in Scotland, but don’t think they have yet.
There a fascinating animal covered in myths and fear, only chance of seeing one is in a zoo, and I’m not very keen on them.
I know this could be a bone of contention with a lot of people but you did ask
Mick

Re: What would you like to find?

I would like to see that the re-introduction of the Great Bustard to Salisbury Plains was a complete success.

Re: What would you like to find?

Orange-spotted Emerald Dragonfly Oxygastra curtisii would have to be the species I would like to re-discover.
Its not been seen for over 40 years in the UK but there's a slim chance its still out there somewhere.

Failing that the giant prehistoric Dragonfly Protodonata would be excellent, with a wingspan of over 1 metre you shouldn't have to get too close to get a full frame image

I'd like to see something new for me, I do not really mind what it was...but if pushed I would choose some of the large Ichneumon mimic craneflies

Unhappy Re: What would you like to find?

How I wish before I die to hear and see the Cuckoo like it used to be when I was young, It's over fourty years now since Iv'e heard that bird here in the Wirral. I would also like to find the Emperor Moth larvae on the bramble bushes like in the old days. Rachel Carsons, Silent Spring came true.

This is actually back on the british list as peeple have found quite a few recently and young to show they are breeding in this country.
