| | | Do you have a scanner? Many years ago I bought a scanner but it saw little use and occupied a needed USB port
so it was retired to a box in the attic, then I saw this http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/...dwscanner.html

| | | Re: Do you have a scanner? there is also a hack out there in cyberspace www.digihack.com I think where somebody takes a scanner apart and turns it into a panoramic camera - the image quality leaves a little to be desired though

I saw something on TV a while back where a couple of guys were using a flatbed scanner as a camera for architectural photography. They'd basically taken a large-format camera and put a "digital back" on it. It was equivalent to a 122 megapixel camera! |

| | | Re: Do you have a scanner? Very interesting. I've just had a try with my scanner with the following result. Not being much of a photographer, I don't think I could have achieved such a good picture with my camera!
I am not planning to take my scanner apart though. This resolution will do me fine.
BTW if a moderator is reading this, could you please delete the image that I submitted to the tree category. I submitted it there by mistake when trying to upoad this forum image.
Thanks,

They have come out very well indeed. Alan also posted a scanned flower that he wanted ID'ed on the forum the other day. I have not tried flowers yet.
The problem with autumn leaves is that they will probably contain quite a lot of blemishes which you don't really want on the picture. I searched high and low for good quality leaves to scan. The best time would be springtime when they are new although I suspect it is the autumn colours you are after!

I tried some old metal fishing spinners and suprisingly even bulky 3d
items work well

I had to be very careful when I tried holly leaves!

bugbotherer | I'm in mid mangle - I couldnt find a medium format camera cheap enough to butcher so I am trying to use a bellows gear stick cover, a back lens cover an old f1.8 lens and about a pint of araldite - if anything useable transpires I will post it here.

| | | Re: Do you have a scanner? I did an attractive screen backdrop with a collage of autumn leaves. Scanners are very versatile.
Mine broke down a few weeks ago. My local computer shop said he could supply one for £30 but I didn't get round to it immediately. When I went back they had all gone and no more available. Apparently everyone now buys scanner/printers but I don't want that partly because I have a new printer. So now I have no scanner. |

It has come out remarkably well.
