| | | Whos going to the Birdfair? Its the British Birdwatching fair at Rutland water this weekend.
The best retail event for anyone into all aspects of wildlife, it usually manages to relieve me of a healthy amount of dosh each year
Is anyone else planning to go and if so on which day? |

As you say Steve, it's a must event for anything to do with the natural world |

| | | Re: Whos going to the Birdfair? Setting off for a leisurely drive down tomorrow, and doing all three days as we have done for the past three years, I am also planning on frequenting the bookstalls for a few more guides, hoping I'll get a bargain or two! I may visit the Bird Forum stand to meet up with John, but as posted on a previous thread sometimes my best laid plans go flying out the window once I get there!
Maybe see some of you there although we wont know it!!
Safe journey to all travelling to the Fair this weekend

For those that are going, I am sure it will be bigger and better than ever .... and all for a good conservation cause as always .

I will be helping out in the Birdforum marquee. Why don't you come along and say hello.
I am also organising a birding bash that will start about 4pm until about 7:30pm which will be run by one of the top birders in the county, I think you know him - Steve Lister (whom I am going to Turkey with). Why don't you, or any other WAB members come along and join us. It should be good and there is plenty about to see at the moment.
There is going to be a barbecue as well from about 7:30pm so it will be a good end to the night.
It would be great if a few WAB members dropped by and said hello.

All being well I will be going on Saturday, to spend all my money again, that want take long.
Only thing to stop me will be heavy rain, There is no way i'm going to park in the field again after that, it turns into a bog, and they have to use landrovers to pull you out
Mick

Mick | Hi Mick
Was you there two years ago? I parked in one field and as I went in the decision was made not to allow any more cars into that field. I just about made it to the far edge with loads of people pushing me. Thankfully I managed to find a relatively dry patch on my way out and only had to be pushed for about ten yards but some cars really got bogged down.
If you do come pop your head in the Birdforum marquee and say hello. Better still if you fancy the birdwatch on the night meet up with us between 3 - 4pm. We will probably have a bite to eat and a drink before we leave.

That was the year, I was one of the early birds and had to go in the field, not long after that they stopped cars going in, what a nightmare, getting out, made even worse because they made us park on the far side of the field.
The car when I did get out was completely covered in mud, by the time I got home it had dried hard and took a long time to wash off.
Oh the joys of birding
Mick

I hope the rain isn't anything like we have here in Leamington Spa at the moment. It is absolutely stair rodding it down.

Yep, my burgandy car took on a completely different colour at the end of that day. What a mess. My clothes were caked in mud also and it was not an enjoyable time.
I hope it's nothing like that this weekend. It will spoil our birding night and probably trash the proposed barbecue for the evening.

John | Even if it is raining, and a bit 'soggy' in the carparks, it's usually ok in the marquees!
Sunny periods here at the mo! |

Sunny periods here at the mo! | True, but the actual walk around the Birdfair can get your shoes, socks and trousers caked in mud. Plus they can get quite wet.
I know some areas may well have a boardwalk down but I doubt very much if all of it will be serviced that way.
Let's hope the rain isn't too bad over there today and tomorrow, as that was one of the main problems two years ago where they had had consistent heavy rain prior to the start of the Birdfair.
