| | | Reminds me of the time I saw young boys fishing, ripping the claws off live crabs to use as bait - I too, was most upset by the practice and voiced my opinions accordingly. |

What they need is educating rather than being told they don't deserve to be on this earth. Until we knew better we did, I am sure, many horrendous things to animals. They are doing it to try and increase their incomes. Does Badger baiting (which although is illegal still takes place) increase anyones' income? Please sign the petition and try to get it stopped. |

| | | Thanks Imaginos.
I must admit to some scepticism about the photo, which didn't seem to be evidence of anything to do with shark fishing in a remote part of the world. That's not to say it's a faked photo, but just that the context is wholly unclear. |

| | | I've done a bit more googling, and it seems very unclear.
There's genuine video of the dog being treated by vets. There are also reports that a lone fisherman has had a minor rap on the knuckles from a local court. It doesn't sound like this is systematic, and I'm wholly clear whether the video relates to the guy who was charged.
I am somewhat dismayed that the RSPCA appeal begins by referring to 'pets' being used in this way. No evidence of that at all as far as I can see. And anyway animals are no less in need of protection when they are not pets. Is this about cruelty to cuddly 'pets', ill-treatment of dogs (which aren't pets), or an attack on shark fishing? Probably a combination of both. A French woman on another board I look at confirms that it is generating strong revulsion in France, so some good is coming from it. |
