How do you manage to keep it that long? Why not name names? There's no such thing as a bad Scotch but as to the best..... Go for Bells as the best blend and Laphroaig (improving with age) as the finest malt .... although, I know, an acquired taste! |

It's interesting that nobody has mentioned water on this thread. I must admit that I'm not keen on it and certainly wouldn't want to pay serious money for it but I do drink gallons of it while in Yorkshire or elsewhere that there's proper water from the ground. I must admit that I stopped drinking tapwater when I first went to London - even cleaned my teeth with wine (a very dry one) .... ... but have taken to it again where it's no longer processed through n sets of kidneys and sewage farms .... |

I like vodka and fruit juice too.
Non alcoholic - i absolutley love fruit smoothies. For a hot drink, peppermint tea is my fave, closely followed by nettle tea |

Also brandy and ginger, port and brandy, Black Bush, red wine. And I really like Real Ales, especially our local Titanic ales. There used to be a cracking pub in Stafford owned by the Titanic brewery and it had all of their brews plus guest ales. Sadly, last time I passed it, it was boarded up, the windows were broken and there was a rosebay willowherb growing out of an upstairs window.
Just to get away from all of that alcohol, a really nice summer drink is elderflower cordial topped up with tonic water.

| | | Re: What's your favourite tipple?? Shame to put other things in with a good whisky or brandy ... one drink I used to like on a winters evening when I had a cold or whatever was rum and cloves. You can't seem to get the clove cordial nowadays. Quote:

| | | Re: What's your favourite tipple?? Fascinating to see such a wide variety of taste amongst you all! Me...well, to be honest there's not much I don't like! I drink tea and coffee - usually the former in the mornings, as I need all the help I can get to kick-start the system these days! Like Paul I try to keep it Fairtrade.
I do drink a fair bit of water & fruit juice, mainly because I think I should. Not too struck on soft drinks.
One thing I do enjoy is a good-sized mug of hot-chocolate last thing at night, especially if there's a late-night film, or if the resident Hedgehogs are up & about and I'm in the mood for some wildlife-watching. It's Fairtrade again with a nice high cocoa content, and tastes even better if I can froth up the chocolate with some single cream, sugar and a shot or two of cognac or some Cockspur rum. Creme de menthe works well too, if I can pinch some without the missus looking. It sounds disgusting, I know, but tastes like a molten peppermint Aero!
Some of our local beers here are pretty good (West Berks, Morrell and Wychwood are all close by). However, if you push me to a favourite - and given my surname and the fact that that the Rugby World Cup is almost upon us - I think I'd go for a nice pint of McEwan's Champion to cheer myself up when the Scottish rugby team get it wrong again.
Or there's one called "Blandford Fly" which has a touch of ginger in it - great for warming you if you've been out in the cold.
In the same thread, I must also say that I'm fond of the odd glass of malt whisky (Dalwhinnie or Ardbeg for preference)
There is one drink, however, I absolutely detest above all others. Advocaat - ugh! Runny eggs in a bottle.
All the best,
Derek |
