| | | Camera Equipment on Planes Hi All
Know this is off the track a bit but it is relevant to WAB photographers
Just heard on the news that we will not be able to take hand luggage on the plane.
Normally I take my camera gear on in its bag as hand luggage, must say I don’t fancy the idea of it going in the hole, having seen the way normal luggage is thrown around.
Camera gear today cost a few pounds, and I dread to think of the damage it would cause.
I’m not sure if we can buy a hard type of case for camera gear, most I know of are made from a canvas type of material.
Would this also mean if we could buy a hard type of case, that we would have to pay an extra charge for excess baggage?
Mick

Mick |
Yes you can, Pelican cases, designed to withstand even the most underpaid baggage handlers. Watertight, dustproof, crushproof, atmospheric pressure purge valves and available in a variety of colours.

What a load of tosh. | I'd personally rather have no hand luggage and keep stuff in clear bags than the plane blow up mid air |

Mick | Whilst it a pain in the proverbial a bit bulky and for some may be to late, it might now be worth keeping the original packaging that the equipement came in at least it's protected and the packaging was generally made for the job in hand. Just a thought.

| | | Re: Camera Equipment on Planes Sticker on the top says URGENT SURGICAL EQUIPMENT
Tends to have people respect it a bit more
You can get these from Smith Cases of Ipswich.
There is more foam which is not shown in the pic to save the cameras moving when in transit
I did hear earlier however that most insurance companies stipulate that you should retain valuables on your person. I guess this may change but do check |

| | | Re: Camera Equipment on Planes I can also strap this to the bottom of the car boot and attach a motion alarm to it. Not 100 percent failsafe (nothing is) but its a lot of hastle for the chav trying to remove it whilst its wailing at 180 decibels |

| | | Re: Camera Equipment on Planes I see your point but I am thinking of opportunists.
Better than a camera bag I think. I would not tend to leave the car anywhere daft anyway and its not a cheap motor. I also think it looks less conspicuous than a bag marked Lowepro, Canon etc but you can never be 100 percent. I also attach the motion alarm when I leave it in hotels. Anyone so much as sneezes near it... |

| | | Re: Camera Equipment on Planes fair point , although having surgical equipment emblazoned on the top is an open invitation to dopers and hypes to break into the motor to see if you are carrying anything tasty
