Members Times Six

Just been reading with interest BartonFlyer's comments regarding changes to the website. Good to see some constructive comments.

Just a thought though ... If each member introduced another 5 members we would have 2178 members in total. I have noticed a large increase in members recently but with so many apparently not contributing and some people that have been members for a while now, with no posts whatsoever.

Little did I know that when I wrote one of my first posts it would be viewed 630 times - just a small piece about a reservoir I had cycled around. Another thread I initiated has been viewed 900 times.

I would urge anyone that has time to try to contribute more to the site. I know that behind the scenes there are many people helping to name unidentified pictures. How? Because I submit so many of them, so whoever is helping - A Big Thank You.

I also know that at least 5 people have joined the site on my recommendation and they are all good contributors. If everybody else did the same they would be instrumental in developing a site that has massive potential - founder members if you like. It is already a fantastic online wildlife library and potentially can be the best in the UK, with so many topics on one site.

We appear to have some very educated members, whose knowledge is incredible. My knowledge has improved dramatically and I hope, through my small efforts, I have shared some experiences with others and tempted them to visit places and try something new.

Walking and cycling have taken on a new meaning to me and I am enjoying them far more than ever as I actually do them with my eyes open now.

I aggree with you about noticing things when out walking, before I joined this site I used to look at plants and wildlife and love them all but never really looked at anything in detail, also wildlife, I want to know everything about them, habitats, what they eat, when they breed all sorts of things, this site has been a real eye opener for me Pat

Good post Boddie.

I agree, the site has huge potential, and anyone willing to contribute can really make a difference. Now I have been a member for a month or so, I have a clearer picture of what the site is about, and I will certainly put the word about.

You can see how many active members the site has and what has been achieved by those contributing but potentially the gallery, forum site, encyclopedia etc. have so much more to offer. I would not have dreamt that I could have offered something unique but judging by the private messages I get from time to time people are genuinely appreciative of my efforts. This makes it all the more worthwhile.

I was wandering actually if there is the facility to recommend this site by e-mail. I have seen this feature on other sites whereby you fill in your email and name and it sends an email to the address you have selected. Is there the possiblity to do this on this site?

Thanks for reading my suggestions - I just need to be retired then I could spend much more time contributing - I do think this site has great potential, but for now "work is the curse of the nature loving classes"
Cheers
Ian
