Missing!, the presumption is.......

Is it just me there have been fewer insects in my garden this year so far?
I have seen bumble bees but not many(some very small ones )but fewer
ordinary bees, not many Hoverflies but more moths(yellow underwings)
The moths are disturbing as they are prey insects for some of the larger bats
Midges the clouds of them above in the bottom lane are missing so far,
perhaps my timings are out
No elephant hawk moth caterpillars,my solomons seal has had fewer sawfly
larvae nibbling, very few flying ants this year,no large beetles to speak of
less houseflies even, I know it has been dry but the birds seem ok plenty of
young sparrows for instance
Does anyone else find thinggs are changing or is it just me?

I can't say I've noticed fewer insects, but timings seem to be different to previous years, presumably due to the recent hot weather. If anything, I think I've noticed more butterflies this year and certainly more Silver Y moths!

Most certainly fewer ants. We've normally had an invasion in the kitchen by now. But nowt to report! The odd housefly, but not the two or three that chase around the light fittings. No big beetles. A few ladybirds-no lacewings! Found bumbles in the garden on their last legs, which is sad. Wasps down too. Gnats about normal-some early crane flies too.
Not as many spiders in the shed this year. I usually have to fight my way through the webs in the morning.Worrying. ww

I have been thinking the same thing (south west too). Insects numbers have been low in general but particularly Dragonflies - this time last year the local pond was swarming with them but so far I've not seen more than 3 or 4 at a time. I'm still hoping the season is just very late starting

Definitely more butterflies than ever and mercifully few wasps!

Re: Missing!, the presumption is.......

My garden has been a hive of activity this year more than others. Fewer flying ants and wasps though (thank god). But more butterflies, ladybirds, spiders, moths and I've seen some large beetles too (often whilst rescuing them from the cat I'm cat-sitting).
