Hi Lonesome Twin,
That was that day that Boddie told his local radio station about the website and lots of people logged to take a look around. We were finding that about 1-2% of all visitors actually register as members, which is fairly typical for a forum, but since then we've been working on a lot of feedback and the stats have started to steadily increase as we continually build a better site.
We're still very much in development (and given the size our 'to do' list' we probably always will be), but once we get lots more info in the reference section etc, we aim to promote to all local radio and newspapers in the UK. Boddie's promo was a great way of testing how the system would respond to a sudden increase in traffic and provide us with some figures on how a single local area promotion would affect the site. Mutliply the 264 across 40/50 regions in the UK and it would have probably crashed the site a few months ago
Thanks for the compliment about the forum, but we really couldn't do it without all the members posting threads - so it's a big thank you to everyone here.
Wild about Britain has always been a community project where everyone is free to get involved at all levels, from design and programming to adding content to the reference section or posting messages in the forums. We've always felt that this is the best way for visitors to be able to have a site that has everything that they'd like to find in an online UK wildlife community.
Luckily, it's a concept that seems to be working very well as we continue to go from strength to strength. Sometime soon we'll run the national promo and hopefully make that 264 a distant memory
Cheers
Stuart
