I am off to a moot

I am all excited, bushcraft uk organise a moot every year and I am going with my family for a long weekend in Welsh Wales tomorrow. Loads of people are going and I am going to learn some new stuff. Going on a plant forrage, fishing, bird song id walk, flint knapping, knife making, leather work, archery, fire by friction, etc etc, and sitting round a fire with a drink or two. They are cooking a lamb and a pig in a hangi oven and a guy called Mors Korchanski is doing a talk. Will let you all know how it went on tuesday..........

Re: I am off to a moot

Is there any particular reason why you call it that, or can you just not spell "meet"

Not 100% but I think moot precedes meet and as bushcrafters like to be traditionists and all that. The Ents had a moot too in Lord of the rings.........I am not an Ent btw

Re: I am off to a moot

Hi guys, I am back..........Moot was fantastic, and learnt lots. Started making my own longbow and haven't got much to do to finish it. Plant walk was great, went out with a guy called Marcus from the Wild Food School. We also went out on a forrage and collected loads of plants, which was cooked up by a chef, it was really tasty. Didn't get to do the flint knapping or the leather craft or the bird id walk, as there was so much going on and it was hard to choose what to do. Mors Korchanski was amazing and even took all the kids out for a bimble, which they all enjoyed.
Great long weekend, now back to work...............

Hello Mark, long time no speak........
Hangi oven is a pit in the ground filled with rocks and a big fire lit on it and then the food is cooked on the hot rocks and covered.
I never got to try the food as we had to leave early, shame........

Yep, moot is an 'Old English' word of Anglo Saxon origin for a meeting or an assembly.

Bimble
- A gentle, harmless, meandering walk with no particular haste or purpose.

I like a bimble in the woods, you tend to see more.

The definitions? I knew about the Anglo Saxon origin of 'moot' and we often use the word bimble but did a quick look up on Wikipedia for moot and google for bimble to be sure of the definitions.

Wikipedia is a great source of info. I love the fact that anyone can add info or edit it. Any errors are very rapidly discovered and corrected because so many people access it so its pretty accurate. Here is the entry for Bushcraft. Someone needs to do a write up on WAB and BCUK, I reckon

I've never attempted to put anything on there myself yet, but I have been tempted to add some photos of our local area. I was bored one day and because Wiki is full of surprises to typed in the name of the little corner of Cheltenham in which I live and couldn't believe it when I discovered someone had already posted an entry on it!

I do think someone (maybe me) should start the ball rolling on entries for BCUK WAB and also WATW too. I'd want Stu's OK on the latter two first though I reckon.
