New PC needed

I'm looking for a new PC. Needs to be a good spec for photo work and gaming. Anyone know of any good deals on such a beast?

Re: New PC needed

£700 gets you a Athlon 64 dual core 4.8GHz baseunit with 2Gb of ram and a SATA-II 200Gb h/drive. I know I just bought one off palicomp they advertise on ebay. Note you need to add your own operating system but only take 30 minutes or so.

Re: New PC needed

These guys make excellent computers.

You can customize the computer before you buy it and upgrade all the important bits!

http://www.meshcomputers.com

I bought a mesh computer four years ago and it still works with no problems and I use it everyday. They are not cheap but are very well built with good quality components. Worth a look anyway, hope you find a good machine.

I'd wait for the current round of AMD/Intel price cuts to settle before shopping.

Looks like the new Intel chips (Core 2 Duo) are beating AMD64's hands down - http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/07/14..._athlon_64_uk/

Desktop CPU's should be available sometime in August.

Intel beating AMD? Funny how the tables turn
Unfortunately this PC is going soon so I can't wait

I know what you mean steve , but it moves so fast that you could wait indefinitely as just about anything you buy will be obsolete before the waranty runs out. The important thing is to get a decent m/board with plenty of potential to upgrade.

gladiator computers in leicester made my last rig - i recomend them.

Did it come with multiple elastic bands for variable power output?

Sorry
Looks like Dell are knocking out the new pentiums, with an extended lead time, right now. But I have found by experience that it is best to buy slightly old technology for price and reliabilty reasons.

Going to pop out and get Computer shopper mag. Good Idea Nightshade.

Marvin
I had a look at Mesh. Their top 2 PC's have a huge price difference. They both look good but the upgrades needed makes it a really high price.

actually it had a little hamster on a wheel inside , just like the old 486s

tescos are doing a nice line in eveshams for circa £400 , just dont buy their cheaper iqons cos these are based on the old socket 749 m/boards and arent going to be upgradable in any meaningful way
