| | | Re: Avon Bat Group Social and Walk/Survey The turn out was disappointing such events are usually oversubscribed, but hey the evening air was fresh the night velvety and a solitary bugler(yes a bugler) played hauntingly.
We made our way to the old Iron railway bridge that crosses the Avon and took the path that leads to the riverbank below it,there were a few Pipistrelle flying some quite small,(45 bandits) then another bat dropped from below the bridge structure and another.....
Pretty soon there were around a dozen Daubentons skimming the water turning in their own length harvesting the myriads of insects that danced above its surface, occasionally zooming up from the water (one passed so close I felt the breeze from its passage)and doing a circuit of the bankside shrubs. The bat detectors started to quiet down as the bats now replete headed off to roost and digest. We pushed off back to the pub

| | | Re: Avon Bat Group Social and Walk/Survey Sounded an interesting trip nightshade. I'd have loved to have come, but It was a little bit far for me to go I'm afraid. We don't get many such events round here, but when we do get them, I always seem to miss them! |

| | | Re: Avon Bat Group Social and Walk/Survey Don't know how I missed seeing this before, nightshade! However, as it turned out, I wouldn't have been able to come because my little girl wasn't well that night....
Sounds like you had a lovely evening - with some great bat encounters! I'll keep my eyes open a bit better for any other events you post up in the future, nightshade. We'd love to get involved with our local bat group! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
