| | | How was your week? Ours was amazing. Thursday, Amber and I went to Parkhall Country park, in the hope of spotting dragonflies. We weren't disappointed. Within 5 minutes of leaving the bus, we were buzzed by common blue damsels, a southern hawker and a common darter. After a sarnie break and a cuppa, it was off to the ponds. Literally hundreds of azure/ Common Blues and blue tips skimmed around our legs, some even landing on Amber. Above the water an Emperor oviposited, four spotted chaser skimmed around our heads with the southern hawker following it. A heron shot one way, a sparrowhawk the other....
This evening we went along our usual River Trent walk. Apart from the mess of the A500 roadworks now cutting across our green belt, it was perfect. Within seconds, a Brown Hawker alighted on a nearby tree allowing me a couple of shots. Dozens of Banded Demoiselles, frisky as ever, male chasing female, dogged our every step, black wings fluttering left and right. Meadow Brown and Tortoishells skipped from stalk to flower. As for the Commas, are they supposed to land on our hats?
And there's still tomorrow! |

| | | Re: How was your week? Fantastic, been out-and-about an awful lot and have taken more shots than you can shake a stick at. The added bonus has been the weather Took the day off on Friday (as did my partner, Tanya)
As for next week... that's going to be a strange one though... off to my first HM Revenue & Customs Business Support Team meeting on Tuesday (have recently become self-employed) so they'll no doubt be opening my eyes to a lot of business-based things and then a week today I'll be driving up to the northwest to see my kids for the first time in two months, so that will no doubt be a tearjerker, I've missed them immensely since moving south.

| | | Re: How was your week? Well I've had a good week. Been on holiday from work and managed to get out every other day with the camera. Came to an agreement with the wife that I would do the jobs around the house that have got left behind one day and go out the next. Learn't a little bit about dragon and damsel flies, taken some great photos (in my opinion anyway) and the weather has certainly been a bonus. Back to work next Wednesday, and I'm not looking forward to it.

| | | Re: How was your week? The days were very hot and stuffy with being stuck in an office with no air conditioning all day. I'm usually home by 4.20pm each day, so each evening after work I went straight out in the garden to take some shots before tea. Yesterday, we visited my mother and father in-law in their caravan in St Asapth in North Wales about noon we left and made our way to Dyserth Falls, there we enjoyed a pub lunch before visting the falls, climbed to the top and made out way down into the woodland below where we saw lots of wrens by the river, didn't get a decent shot though. Today I got up at 4.50am and sat in the hide in the hope of seeing the Fox but he had already been and gone. I stayed in the hide until 7.30am when Greg brought me a cuppa, then just lazed about all day mainly indoors, we were going to go to Pennington Flash but it the weather too hot. Also, I have been experimenting with my camera settings.

| | | Re: How was your week? We rounded off our week with a short drive to Wombleton (no Wombles about) and Harome, both of which are lovely villages - main streets and back lanes, village pond in Harome plus fete at the vicarage (didn't get to that), and several amusing scarecrows which are made and displayed for the enjoyment of locals and visitors. A few miles later having spent time leaning on gates, exploring public footpaths and watching abundant wildlife I bought my free range eggs and we headed for home. Too hot to do much more than sit under a tree with a shandy. Bliss.

| | | Re: How was your week? I had an easy week this week. The weekend was good with a trip to London today. We were looking for clay pipes on the Thames. I found a few interesting ones and a fossilised fish. Can any of the forums anglers identify it please. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
