Under new rules concerning freedom of information, drivers now have access to speed camera records.

These records show every time you pass a a speed camera at even 1 mph over the limit. You might not receive a penalty notice but you will be recorded. If you are recorded over the speed limit on 20 occassions, you will be considered a "serial offender" and on the next occassion, even if only 1 mph over, you will receive a penalty notice.

Drivers can check these records by logging on to the following website, you will be asked for a password but just click on the need a password link and you will get one automatically.

Click on the "need a password, click here" button, it will get one for you Julie. Make sure you write it down though.

Let's hope so. Excessive speed is a _major_ factor in crash frequency and severity. Sadly too many males have vastly over-inflated egos which results in them denying the risk they pose to others. Are a few seconds on you journey time really more important than the lives of others? I realise that my stance will undoubtably isolates me from everyone else on this forum and will probably make me personna not grata here and unable to post again but the facts speak for themselves.

I agree with you. I dont have much time for anyone caught on a static camera as they are pretty obvious, but some of the vans etc are particularly snide and definitely just there for revenue. I also disagree fundamentally with the system. i.e. 3 points for three years. How is this right if some people travel 45K miles a year and some maybe a couple of hundred?

I agree, plus when you're covering those sorts of distances on roads you don't know it can be so hard to work out what the speed limit actuallly is, I'm back down to three points now but when I was on nine, I was tempted to drive to several location around the country and take a picture just the other side of a speed sign or on a stretch on road with no signs and take them all into various police stations across the country and ask them to guess the speed limits - because that's how I foulled up - I didn't intentionally speed and it's easy to miss the speed sign if you're concentrating on the travel report or the bus coming the other way or the tractor up ahead or something and the whole 30/40/50mph areas can be really hard to tell apart sometimes!
I just wish there were obvious national consistant ways to tell....
