| | | Random Acts Of Kindness Whilst strolling through town today the girlfriend and I passed a homeless bloke and he asked if we had any spare change which we didn't respond to and kept on walking but he said "have a nice day" and then "cheer up fella" to me (I was seriously hungover) which I replied with "I'm P***** off" and he replied "so am I!"
Anyway, on the way back from the shop he asked if I had cheered up a bit and I said yeah just a bit ropey, I told him if I had any cash I'd give him a quid or so but he said that's alright and thanks for stopping and having a little chat, then he told me that his tent was stolen the night before as he had been sleeping in a field near our town.
I wished him all the best and then on the way back to the car realised that I've got an old eurohike tent hanging around in the garage that we have no need for so we scooted off home to get it AND a pouch of baccy for the fella but once we returned he had gone.
Spent half an hour or so looking to see if we could find him to give him my old tent but no joy.
It's the thought that counts isn't it?
Anyone else done a random act of kindness? |

| | | Re: Random Acts Of Kindness New Years Day 1999, the early hours, returning home from the celebrations. I bumped into someone struggling to get back to Birmingham who obviously had no chance of that. I said he could doss on the sofa! He was really thankful and no one ever paid him such an act of kindness. Next morning I woke up only to find he had upped & left with a wet ring on the sofa, due to a night of heavy drinking!! (Not a random act I suppose, I just couldn't see the guy sleeping on the streets)!
Feeding the Goats today I gave half a pack of crisps to a Dad so his little boy could feed them!
I could go on & on....it's the type of guy I am! |

I was a bit gutted that he had gone/moved as I'm sure he would of been made up with my tent but never mind. Lot's of people just turn their noses up at homeless folk but I for one wont! I had to get the garlic planted so couldn't really stop for a decent chat otherwise I would of. |

| | | Re: Random Acts Of Kindness There are times when that act of kindness can backfire............ a few years back whilst on hol in our favourite Hebrides, I drove round a bend in the road (Golden Road it was - the minor route in Harris) and found a large chap stood in the middle of the road with arms outstretched. Slamming to a halt - just short of hitting him - he then leant in the window and begged a lift - I soon realised if I didn't open the door and let him in he was going to hang onto the window anyway........... So in he gets and plonks on the back seat (which makes into our bed..........) and we set off to get rid of him to Rodel where he had asked to go. It became immediately obvious the min we shut the door that he was a tramp living rough and I had to drive with the windows open to stop my eyes watering......... By the time he got out our van needed fumigating and the foams which make up our bed smelled to high heaven We flew back up the islands to the site at Stornoway - bypassing all the fabulous scenery - Luskentyre, Hushinish etc on what turned out to be the only clear blue day of the whole two weeks Once back on our pitch we stripped the velour covers from the foam seats and shived them into the two washing machines .......... it cost £12 to wash and dry them before bedtime
It didn't take the site owners long to clock that we where in the middle of some sort of emergency and when they heard the tale they were doubled up.... apparently we had given a lift to the 'Hearach Tramp' (Harris Tramp according to Lewis folk - Lewis Tramp according to Harris folk ) and I believe they have never forgotten us and our old VW and the tale of the tramp
Fortunately the covers did not shrink but went back on the foams ...... occasionally all these years later I still think I can 'catch a whiff' when making the bed up

| | | Re: Random Acts Of Kindness I helped a guy who was looking for a certain species of snail he needed for a breeding project. If anyone has heard of Pomatias Elegens you will know how strange they look. This guy was having trouble finding them, he only knew they were in the south of france but I had tons in the woods where I used to live. So I sent him some. He said he would pay for them but I told him i didn't want payment. I got an email a few days later to say they had arrived safely and that I was to expect something in the post. Next day i got a thankyou card from him and £30. Not payment for the snails, he said, just a thankyou gift. He said I could buy alot of chocolate for £30
A really nice guy that I'd certainly help again, though I didn't want the money. I felt bad for accepting it |

| | | Re: Random Acts Of Kindness I was on the receiving end of an act of kindness once and I will always be grateful. I was involved in a car crash. The other driver drove off and left me stranded by the side of a busy road as it was getting dark and with a written off car. I was only 18 at the time and very vulnerable; it was in the years before mobile phones and I was quite shaken up but not badly hurt.
Fortunately for me a kind couple pulled over and offered to take me home. In hindsight I shouldn't have got into the car with them as they were complete strangers but I did and they took me home to mum and dad. I'll always be grateful, they were my guardian angels that day.
