| | | Re: Can anyone ID bones found in my garden? If they're "very old" then I doubt if they will be guinea pig, rat, mouse, gerbil, iguana, parrot, budgie, snake, goldfish, et al!! They'd have disintegrated by now. I still come across Rabbit bones from a few years back in my herb garden (it's been a long while since any Rabbits were buried in there) so I'd say Rabbit sized upwards
Come on then, Phoebe! We're all waiting for you!

I am uploading the photos now. For info my house was built in 1690 yes it's 17th century, the bones are certainly not a small pet! I was having Oil Central Heating fitted and when they dug down to 600mm I was telling them how I always find bones and broken bits of old pottery, lo and behold we was looking at a selectionof bones in the trench.
Photos to follow. |

I'm absolutely no expert on this, but the jawbone: Being pointed yet broad and blunt, I'd guess it's a herbivore... it kind of looks like it would be used on foliage, like a grazer.

| | | Re: Can anyone ID bones found in my garden? I wondered if they could be from a horse or maybe a pig. The bones are very crumbly so I don't know how long it would take to get to that stage. It is a puzzle.
The jawbone is not complete it is broken off on the length so would be longer.
There are more photos of the same from other aspects in the archive I didn't want to put them all on here for fear of boring everyone. |

| | | Re: Can anyone ID bones found in my garden? Most of you seem to agree on sheep. Thanks for your replies. I must buy a shoulder of lamb for Sunday Roast so I can compare. I really wanted to keep looking in the trench, there must be the whole animal in there. But where I found other bones in the past were no where near this spot in fact they were 10 metres away it quite surprised me. I must be living on a kind of animal cemetary |
