| | | Up the garden path How about a little story challenge, All of a sudden, quite out of the blue i found myself in a strange but farmiliar world, then it hit me, i'm in my own back garden, but i'm only one inch tall.
i remember hitting my return key and then this, i must get back to my keyboard..........
ok here's the story challenge, you have to write how your journey would go from the furthest part of you garden/yard back to your computer keyboard to hit the Esc key.
Just being 1 inch tall it could bring up some intreasting encounters with various wildlife, even if you don't have a garden you can still take part, maybe you have to fight your way out of a dark corner of the garage.
or you could use your imagination and find the fastest route back to the Esc key

I look around at the grass towering above me. First of all I need to find out which way to go. I don't want to go to the very back of the garden. The brambles are a spider haven and I'd never survive.
I climb a strong looking stalk. Ah, the fence and further on the house. Excellent. If I just stay near the fence I can keep from getting lost.
I push my way through the touch green blades. I'm getting soaked from the huge dewdrops falling on me. I could drown if I'm not careful, but at least I get a drink. Its hard work trying to get through this grass. I really should get the lawn mower out more.
After about an hour I reach the fence. I sit under a dockleaf and wonder how long it's going to take me to get to the house. Then I think how to get up the steps. A rustling nearby startles me. I look and a ladybird pushes it's way out of the grass. It's mandible open and close as it sizes me up, trying to see if I'm worth eating. I pick up a twig and hit it on the shell hard a few times to show it who's boss. It opens it's wings and flies off, no doubt glad soft skinned aphids have no sticks.
It's time to walk. I have to be careful. Big brown spiders sun themselves on this fence, if a ladybird wants me for a meal I'd never get away from a horde of hungry spiders. That would not help with my arachnophobia.
The docks are harder to push through and I am forced to climb them. Its exhausting work but I do get some glimpses of the house so at least I'm on the right path. Spiders are watching me from the fence. One or two dart out at me, fangs out stretched and dripping but poking them with my twig stops them. Cowards.
I stop for another rest. I'm making good progress but I still need to figure out how I'm going to get up those stairs. Also it will be dark by the time I get there. I need a rope to climb. Maybe I can use a blade of grass? With great effort I tear a blade of grass and pull. A thin but long sliver comes away. I test it's strength. It is very strong. I coil it up and put it over my shoulder. If i can tie a stone to it I might be able to use it to climb.
Suddenly I come face to face with a huge beast. It has huge fangs, a strong looking carapace. Two eyes set high on it's body and eight long legs. A harvestman. The creature just sits and looks at me in a stupid way. It's obviously not intelligent.
It watches as I slowly walk around it. Then I think. A harvest man is a good climber and obviously stupid. Can I ride it home? I walk slowly towards it and uncoil my grass rope. The spider just sits. I grit my teeth and try not to think bout touching a spider as I climb onto it and loop the rope aound its pedipalps and tie it behind the eyes. I sit on it's back and give it a kick. I scream as it starts running. Up the fence!!!
I tug on my make shift reigns and it stops and walk back down. Excellent, it works. With a tug here and there I guide the harvest man towards the house. It has great speed and gous over the grass and weeds so easily. This has to be the best all terrain vehicle ever!
Soon I get to the steps. The concrete looks forbidding and each step so high. No problem to my steed. I hang on tight as we negotiate each over hang and make it up. I'm grateful the back door has been left open. I nudge the harvestman inside and walk it through, hoping the cat is asleep. It wouldn't be anygood for my harvestman to get eaten.
The carpets look like a miniature jungle as we clamber over the fibres. The dog is sleeping and each exhale of her breathe is like a meaty hurricane force gust. We slip under the living room door and make our way up the stairs. I'm so worried I'm going to fall.
When I get to the top of the stairs, I untie the harvestman and let It go. It just sits there staring for a bit, then remembers its hungry and walks back down the stairs, its inside gurgling in a strange way.
I slip under my bedroom door. I can see my computer. Its on the computer desk that looks as high as a house.
I'm glad I didn't finish making the bed. The duvet is hanging off and I use it to climb on to the bed. From there I jump across to my computer tower and then onto the chair. A big leap and I make it onto my keboard. Phew!
I climb on and jump on the return key.
I wake up sitting on my chair, normal size. Thank heavens. I do a virus check and delete a minimize virus. Then I vow never to go on the computer straight from work.
My harvestman pet unfortunately didn't make it. I was in the living room and saw him running across the carpet. My fiance knows about my arachnophobia and stamps on it before I can say anything. At least it was too stupid to realise it's dead |

| | | Re: Up the garden path Thanks everyone. I've always had a good imagination, although daydreaming in class got me in a bit of trouble at school I'm more in to horror so I can't really put anymore stories on here, it is a family forum after all Maybe some of you could give it a go? |

It's dark in here; really black.Phew-and what's that strange smell? Ummm......warm foamy rubber to cushion the fragile laptop. Up close and personal it's overpowering.
Now what's this? Slippery,hard with a tangled tail.Wish I had a light in here.Wish I'd eaten more carrots.I wonder if carrot cake helps?Hang on a minute,it's a mouse.Eek,arrgghh..........but it's cool,not breathing,very still,dead-no droppings then. No good to me either.
Right.I'm going to wriggle along the bottom seam.Oops, got my foot caught.........cheap stitching......probably made in China.Hush my mouth.......anyone reading my mind? Don't want the PC police carting me off.
I suppose the laptop is a PC? Not one of those flashy MACs!
Ah ha.......cold metal-the zip. Mmmmmmm-zip my lip-that was painful-head butting a zip!
Maybe I can climb up the teeth and get out?
Wish I hadn't bitten my nails, not enough to hold onto. Sob...........sniff.......I want a charger or maybe I could RAM my way out. Think,think.........my memory's not what it was.
Whoaaaaaaaaaa.....what's going on? I'm moving. Crunch.Ow,that hurt.
LIGHT! DAYLIGHT! AIR!
My sister's after my laptop. Cheek-is nothing sacred?
She's opening the cover........quick.........boing,boing.
Yippppeeeeeeeee...........landed on the keyboard. Home free.
