| | | Mull in October Hi
I'm new to this site but you all seem very knowledgable and helpful so here goes:
I am planning a visit to Mull in late October. Any tips about what to see, where to go or where to stay?

| | | Re: Mull in October I seem to remember that they hold the Mull Rally in October sometime - it might be best to check that your visit doesn't coincide with that because it can make finding accommodation difficult and there will be some roads closed for some periods I think - unless of course that is why you're going.
The Otters (on almost any sea loch) will be good in October and the eagles will still be around google for MullBirds and you get some good ideas of what to see.
PS - hello and welcome

| | | Re: Mull in October Hi Peter, welcome to WAB.
Mull eh? I'm not jealous in the slightest, honestly.
I guess the big two to look out for are Otters and White Tailed Eagle. Also a good chance of Dolphins, Whale, Porpoise and Grey Seal. If you Google 'Mull Wlidlife' you'll see the many safari/ wildlife operators that work in the area. Even if you don't want to use any of them, you'll get a good idea of the things you may see.
You should have a great time. Let us know how you get on. |

| | | Re: Mull in October You'll have a good chance of seeing basking sharks and possibly various cetaceans if you do a boat trip in October. Google Turus Mara, I've done a trip with them in the past, there are probably other companies though. |

| | | Re: Mull in October Should be in with a good chance of both eagles (try Glen More and Loch Frisa) and also Hen Harriers and Short Eared Owls on some of the expanses of bog.

A warm welcome to WAB.
Off to Mull? .... that is a long journey from IOW .
I have been to Mull several times and at various times of the year, the last time being in March of this year.
I think it is one of the outstanding wildlife locations in the UK when ever you go. In my view both eagles and Otter are the highlights.
I would say that May is the best time of the year to visit but I am sure you will not be disappointed in October.
I am combining a trip to Mull with Islay in early November so we will have to compare sightings.
Enjoy your trip .

| | | Re: Mull in October If you're looking for Otters, try Salen, there was a mother and pub there last week. Swam around for about 10 min while I watched on.
Head for the high glens for golden eagles and there are territories off white tailed eagles all over the island.
Buzzard are everywhere on the island, must have seen 25 on a drive around the lower half of the island and there are also plenty of kestrels to watch out for.
You can trip over the herons as there are plenty on all coast lines.
I was only on the island for 3 days last week and all the above in one day, the only day it didn't rain.
Also theres a bird hospital on the island not far from Craignure, called Wings over Mull. They do shows of raptors/owls every 2 hours and theres 20 species of birds of prey on display. Worth a look if its a dry day.NOt a huge place, but if passing worth a look. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
