Stop Look and Listen

I walked along with a workmate who was gently taking the mick about my wild life interests
what is around here he asked ?
I stopped him and signed for him to keep quiet,we stood for a little over a minute and just as his patience was running out I pointed to a greenwoodpecker that had arrived on the grass verge,the two young Rabbits which had frozen at our approach hopped about nibbling grass
a robin and a pied wagtail started to forage within a few feet of us and a blackbird alighted in the tree above us and started to sing,my stock went up immediately,
He now regularly regales me with sightings he has made using the stop look listen technique
(usually topping my tales)

There was a post on the forum recently about a similar thing. When you are out with your camera you miss so much as you are concentrating on the target species. Since that thread I have made a point of stopping and taking in my surroundings.

It works a treat
