| | | Nature loving litter louts! Nature loving litter louts - possible, or a contradiction in terms?
Presumably folk who visit the countryside/parks/seaside etc. do so because they enjoy the beauty of the environment - why, then, do some leave their rubbish behind, or toss beer cans, crisp packets etc. into the undergrowth as they walk along? It's annoying and puzzling in villages, towns and cities and even more irritating and inexplicable in the countryside. How do you educate those who do it to see the error of their ways?
If we all behaved similarly imagine just how these beautiful islands would look.

I know what you mean ... there's a little area of heath / woods near me where I often go on my way home from work, just to see what's about, and the things you find there .... obviously being relatively quiet and out of town means that people go there to do ALL sorts of things ....
Which is fine, I'm not against it (as long as they don't do it in broad daylight ), but I wish they would take all their litter home with them afterwards ....

You can be savouring the tranquility and beauty in the most secret glade when you catch sight of a Mcdonalds bag which will remind you of the worst in human behavior, bring you out of your Zen like relaxation and spoil the moment.
Wheel em out & shoot em I say

| | | Re: Nature loving litter louts! I took a nice view shot when I was out on Boxhill on Saturday. When I downloaded the pics I found there was loads of litter in the foreground of the shot. I've obviously got so used to people littering that I don't see it anymore.
I can't understand why people need to litter, it's no more difficult to carry litter home than it was to carry it out into the countryside in the first place. |

These people are not nature lovers, just half-wits looking for a place to stuff their big-round faces In most cases it is a mindless act with no thought or consideration for the consequences. It makes my blood boil... |

You can be in the remotest wood and you still kick beer cans or notice white carrier bags and there seems to be a fashion for campfires at the minute, usually on pine needle/peat rich ground. They can burn for months! |

| | | Re: Nature loving litter louts! This all extends from upbringing and education. I watched a young lad being collected from the school grounds a while back. As he walked along, he unwrapped a sweet that his Mum had just given him, dropped the wrapper on the floor and kept going. I promptly picked it up , handed it back to him and said infront of his mother, we have bins please use them. She grabbed the wrapper off him, gave me a stern look, walked outside the school gate and dropped it herself!!!! I was fuming!! But you could just tell that this is what this family did.
It wasn't trained into them that you didn't abuse the space that we all share.
I see this sort of behaviour so much amongst kids and I fear that it is a neverending circle until there are powers that enforce that fact that is anti-social behaviour and that a 'little telling off 'is of no use at all. Education, BIG fines and prison sentences -long ones-for fly-tippers.
Ok. I've just dismounted my high horse.ww

| | | Re: Nature loving litter louts! Tell me about it, its a real nightmare. I was meant to be doing work in the woodland today but had to go litter picking instead as the park was absolutely packed with rubbish. Why do people do it. It makes me laugh as these people would be the first to complain if the country park started to get really untidy.

I think my particular low point was when I had to climb inside the skip to restack the bags to increase capacity - yuk. Or possibly when a drunk footie fan poored a bottle of stella over me - I had just told him no glass bottles were allowed. double yuk

As camping aint allowed in our parks we also confiscated the tent leaving them a note.
When they came and said "we want our tent back" we smiled sweetly and said "not until you have picked up three bags of rubbish." lol. When they came back with their three bags I was in a real bad mood so we made em empty all the bins and carry the nasty yucky rubbish to the skip before we let em have their tent back - that'll teach em, I havent laughed so much in years

| | | Re: Nature loving litter louts! I wonder what ever happened to being taught the countryside code in school - as I was. My only idea for a solution is to impose hefty taxes on manufacturers packaging at source, ban those terrible plastic shopping bags (?how - no idea) and have offenders organised into working parties and clearing up stuff as a form of sentencing, rather than a small fine, probation etc. |

Ban the plastic ones and make them use the biodegradable ones.

Saying that, they use the offenders to clean around here, might make them think twice........... |
