| | | Is this right? I saw this recently and thought it was pretty cool but does it constitute vandalism?
I though it was a bit of fun and if I were John I would be chuffed. Although mine would have had to say Andrew 35.
I am of course only 34 but will be 35 in 19 days time so you lot have just over 2 weeks.
Or is John 60 something out of the bible? (In which case I have completely missed the point) |

| | | Re: Is this right? depends how they did it, if they use weed killer or something and it's good quality grassland then they need a slap, if it's just cut really short then it's fairly temporary (provided it didn't hit a colny of rare butterflies or something) and it should recover and it's pretty cool
Oh and I was thinking, you can sort of almost buy a cloud if you arrange for a red arrows display or something!
Not as lovely or brooding as the cloud in the previous cloud type thread |

i.e.. meet me (Martian Johnny) in 60 days from now, bring indestructable super robot army, thermonuclear ray guns and umberella.
Hope I don't panic anyone |

I'm going to stick my neck out and say this is irresponsible even if done with sand or a close cut mow - others will see it and think, "cool" and go and do it for their loved one or whatever and before we know what there will be a craze for it and some will be done with weedkiller etc..
Natural grasslands are rare and fragile enough as it is.
And I really don't think it is me being a boring old git? |

In a way you're right, but I think it's probably harder work that most people suspect most would probably give up and after all people have been carving horses into hillsides for well a loonngggg time and that had the potentialy to spark off this sort of thing but it hasn't really.
look at the 'why do I do this every day' graffiti on the fence on the M40 as you turn onto the M25 exit, that always catches my eye as it must do so many people, but such graffiti hasn't then proliferated on the following bridges or other motorway furniture as it could have done, people are basically lazy most of the time and hopefully won't be too inspired.
Plus it depends what kind of grassland it's done on, chances are it might have already been improved and fertilized and ruined and creating bare patches in such grassland might allow some more ineteresting species in! unless it's weed killer ..... |

I particularly like the work of Banksy.
His website address does not take much working out but it does contain adult material so dont look if easily offended.
If you cant work it out and want to know it PM me |

Thats worse than weedkiller cos it lasts for ages. Mind you I had the last laugh cos i used it as an excuse to strip the top soil and plant a wildflower meadow.

There was also the time when Sollihull DC decided to have welcome to sollihull planted on two big banks as you go into the town in bulbs - unfortunately they got the probation service to do it and the litle darlings planted some very rude words instead - I laughed so much I nearly crashed the car

| | | Re: Is this right? We currently have two "one word poems" growing in one of our parks in specially planted cornfields, one of GM hybrid, and one of organic wheat - the words are planted in poppies. - Eventually they are going to harvest the fields, bake bread and eat it in the name of art. We were happy to oblige and one of our volunteer photograohers is documenting the whole thing. see The MK gallery website for more info http://www.mk-g.org

How about W.A.B in cornflowers ? | To be fair this is exactly what I was getting at. A stealth, evening mission, the more daring the better. Camoed up, night vision if necessary. Just wanted to test the water to see what is acceptable.
If anyone is serious I will drive. We just need ideas.
PM's please |
