Aren't they supposed to be good for arthritis too!...

Years ago my then landlady heard that, and went and knelt in a nettle patch. She was not a happy bunny a few hours later when the nettle stings began to itch. Can't have done her arthritis much good - she never tried it again, as far as I heard.

Good idea that, and don't forget ice cubes! Have just bought some in the supermarket and filled a glass of diet coke with them right to the top and it's pretty close to blisss........

Heres some Make your own Ice Lollies thing!

Do a jug of ordinary Orange Squash or your favourite flavour juice then put them in a lolly mould and leave overnight and the next day you have your own perfect ice lolly!

Also, for dogs and cats, make a plain water one for them, they will love it

Re: Tips to beat the heat..........

I have shovelled 6 ton of mot type 1 today, 31 degrees. It all went round to the back of my customers house as a patio base, I leveled it and put the wacker plate over it. I also finished the digging. I have drunk over 4 1/2 liters of water plus cups of tea, and I have still come home with a headache. Cold shower and a beer or six now plus loads more water.............Jon

Re: Tips to beat the heat..........

I can sympathise jonny - I was outside all day friday, sat, sun , and today (and i mean all day, average hours were 7am -11pm) doing stuff for a big festival we were running - in total across the 4 days I drank 29 pints of water. Thank god for cold showers.

returning to tips - put your pillow in a bin bag, and put it in the freezer a couple f hours before bed time.

btw moving to iceland wont help its flippin hot there in the summer too - try antartica

Re: Tips to beat the heat..........

Trouble with any alchohol is the it is dehydrating, the last thing needed in this weather. Plain cold (icy cold) water and lots of it is best. If needs be a little salt to replace that lost can be added.

True but the ice cold grolsch will make you feel better about it just drink plenty of water too.

Thanks to boddies recommondation I have 2 cases of starpromenen to get through - these are in the beer fridge chilling down as I speak - there is also a bottle of schnapps in the freezer for later - oh yes.

I havent got a day off til sunday and there is no way I'm waiting that long to have a bevvy or nine. Any way I need to make room in the fridge for whats left of the havtiqua - I actually prefer this to star - as its just as nice but about half the price.

Ive also got four big bottles of kingfisher stuffed in the food fridge for emergencies.

Re: Tips to beat the heat..........

IF it ever gets hot again first:
  • remove your sweatshirt
  • remove your t-shirt
  • soak t-shirt under tap
  • replace t-shirt

Hey Presto! Evaporative cooling! Those of a delicate nature should check in a mirror to ensure the wetness does not induce transparency.

At night do the same with a cotton sheet. Wring it out well and curl up in it.

Sooo coooool.
