| | | Who do you want as a WABber I have just posted a reply on the thread about the TV prog on Darwin, I would like to propose him as an interesting (!) WAB contributor, and add Richard Spruce as another.
Who else do you want to elect from history?

Who else do you want to elect from history? | Chico Mendes (though he might have prefered wild about the world )
Eric Hoskings
Thor Heyadal
Cptn James Cook
and Gilbert White

Who else do you want to elect from history? | Although he worked with foreign critters I was always inspired by Gerald Durrell

| | | Re: Who do you want as a WABber Is David Attenbourough a too obvious choice, I guess along with other TV folk like Nick Baker and Chris Packham. And yes I am stuck in the present
So Ill go with Steve Harris author of the excellent urban foxes and the latest edition of Handbook of british mammals (all the info you'd ever want on our mammals), soon to be superceeded by the next edition - oh well thats £80-90 down the drain!

and Gilbert White | I love that list! What an expedition team that would make. Might have to interview Heyerdal and Cooke to prevent conflict. Can I come with you? (I think Gilbert White might prefer to remain at home and have stuff emailed, working as a Blogger) |

And, my favourite author Ammon Wrigley, who wrote so lovingly about the Saddleworth countryside, in the West Riding, in the early part of the twentieth century.

Might be a slightly controversial choice as some people are opposed to zoos even for the purpose of captive breeding of endangered species. Another choice for me would be Peter Scott.
If we're allowed people still alive then I'd pick the presenter of the Darwin programme, Richard Dawkins, and also Simon Barnes.
It'd be lovely to have a few of the pro wildlife photographers on too - too many to name.

. | I've actually met richard dawkins and while i'm sure he'd make a great contributor he is somewhat contreversial and doesnt suffer fools (for which read anyone who doesnt agree with him) ... i suspect his wab career would be exciting but short
other names for the list from the living would be stephen jay gould, and james lovelock.
and from the deceased
Plinney, Archimedes, and Galileo

I have his books on the same shelf as Dawkins'. Sometimes, in the dead of night, I swear I can hear them still arguing!
James Lovelock is still going strong though.
