| | Music that moves us Thought I'd add this thread! Just wandering what songs move and affect us. One that really does move me is Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. It's one of those songs that you have to listen to in complete silence and you can lose yourself in the sounds. I love the music by Mike Oldfield too, especially Sentinal and The Bell. They move me almost to tears sometimes, they're that amazing!!
Music means so, so much to me, not many people realise how much it does, which is one of the reasons I started this thread. Playing the piano is very thereputic too, and you can connect music to nature in so many ways.
What about you? Sarah

What about you? Sarah | You and me both! Playing the piano is more than just tapping away at the keys, it almost sends me into a kind of trance I only snap out when I hit a bum note (which is too often!)
Of songs that I listen to 'God only Knows' by the Beach Boys does it for me. It was playing on the radio the night my sister was quite ill as a kid. Still makes me well up every time I hear it.
A lot of songs reminds me of different people and occasions - I don't think life would be the same without music!

For many reasons I guess, some linked to my days at college, but mainly because it is the most kick-ass song you will ever hear when played live.
If you have never heard it then you dont know what you are missing!

If you have never heard it then you dont know what you are missing! | I do know it and find it very emotive, it seems so intelligently done, but it also seems to reflect the emotions I least want to have, the escapism I find in drink for example. I am quite fan of being comfortably numb, until it goes on too long, happens too often and becomes less of a celebration than an end.
The whole thing about music is that it does provoke emotions.
Feeling bubbly, bit of Manu Chao
Like the Smiths, they were so Smithy
Beethoven, there is always someting in there.
Mozart seems like a nattering fool.
Love old blues (Lightning Hopkins, Bunny Lewis)
Chris used to sing many years ago, she could make you cry and quieten a BIG hall of drunken Folkies, singing unaccompanied.
It is the most powerful way apart from smell to get a blast from somewhere else. |

Just been playing the opening to Mike Oldfield's Sentinel. Feel very emotional now

Totally agree - Pink Floyd's music is brilliant, pity they don't get along now.

He does "Comfortably Numb" as the last song that lasts for ages. |

| | | Re: Music that moves us For me Gnossiene No. 1 (sorry cant spell it ), by Erik Satie. Quite melancholy but beautiful. Theres a few songs i cant listen to at all and have to turnoff if it comes on the radio, songs associated with bad times in my life.
Music is quite important to me, use it to escape every so often .
Generally like Editors, R.E.M, Blur, Kaiser chiefs, sarah mclachlan, foo fighters, radiohead.

I watched a recent documetary on Floyd, Roger Waters seemed to have been on an ego trip a few years ago and thought that the band would fold without him so he left to pursue a solo career and the rest of the band carried on. At the end of the programme each member of the band was asked if they would reform they all seemed fairly positive apart from Dave Gilmour who said "no chance", pity.

Opera, anyone (or pig strangling, which it so closely resembles)? I love a clear voice, the strange contortions of Opera seem quite perverse. |

100's more but these particularly strike a chord. |
