My holiday in Glen Lyon!

Hi,
Well, I’m back home after a fortnight in Perthshire in the most beautiful glen, Glen Lyon surrounded by wildlife. I knew it was going to be good when we drove over the field to the cottage and 2 Roe deer & 3 hares (mountain or brown, I’m not sure?) and 2 buzzards circling above.

We spent a lot of time exploring the glen, views and wildlife around every corner, such as a herd of 30+ Red Deer!

The views, and colours everywhere, were amazing; I’ve heard people say Autumn is the best time of year to visit but after this visit, and having visited in Autumn, I think now is best!

There were lots of ‘firsts’ for us; black-throated divers on Stronuich reservoir, cuckoos, lapwings, goosanders, wheatears, black grouse. House Martins nesting on the cottage (not the best photos)

I made a point of getting up at 5 some mornings for a walk, the air was ‘electric’ with life. Anyone visiting the area I’d recommend Faskally, Meggernie & Lochs estates in Glen Lyon, Rannoch & Allean forest.
Finally, one last image; the view from our cottage 2 weeks apart, how much has grown!

Welcome back, Claire. It sounds like you had a great time. Great photos. I especially like the one with the reflection in the loch.

Wow, gorgeous photos. Welcome back. As I've said before it sounds like heaven, the perfect place to unwind and with all the wildlife who could ask for anything more.

Thanks for all your words, all I've got to do now is convince my hubby it's a good idea to go back next year!

Re: My holiday in Glen Lyon!

Hope you had a nice time AGC.
I know the Glen very well - my Grandfather lived up there before he passed away, and my uncle has lived up there for the past twenty or so years.
All our family have had our kilts made in that part of Scotland and I return as often as I can.... if othing else to fly-fish for broonies and salmon in the Lyon itself.
Wild cats allegedly up there too, and Pine Martens...
A magical place.

Re: My holiday in Glen Lyon!

It sounds like you had a great time. The missus and I honeymooned up there a couple of years ago. We went to see the old yew at Fortingall and I remember a venerable ash tree by the side of the road in Glen Lyon. The hares are Brown Hares by the way!

Regards, Chris
