Carbon-dioxide pools

Does anyone remember a documentry about a Volcanic area where wildlife regularly gets killed by pools of Carbon dioxide.
One scene in paricular a Raptor flew down to take a lizard (already dead)
and as it sat wings upraised you could see its tongue turning blue

Yeah they are a volcanic region in africa, cannot remember where, with lakes and i think it was monoxide. I wrote a paper on them at uni years ago and the gas bubbles up and clouds of gas flows down the hillsides and can poison villagers too.

It was on the telly last night on '10 Things you Didn't Know About Volcanoes' (a very good programme!)

Yes you are right it was carbon monoxide I also seem to recall it was between a ring of volcanoes (at least 3)
