| | | I'm a fool Well as most of you know i recently purchased my shiny new camera and lens.
Well today we decided to go off down to Beachy Head on the Sussex coast near Eastbourne.
Loaded the car up and Jackie said "don't you want the camera"
I said no as i thought it was going to pour down.
Well we made it down there and the first thing we saw when we get to the cliff edge.
Yep........a Peregrine less than 100ft away preening itself.....we watched it for 15 minutes then another 10 when it decided to patrol up and down the cliffs.
It's the first one i have ever seen and although the light wasn't brilliant it would have been a fairly decent record shot.
Moved along to Seven Sisters Park/Cuckmere Haven and there are Little Egrets everywhere........some within 30 ft...........oh thats right........no camera.
I could kick myself and in fact i am going to............ouch...........lesson learned today i think.
Camera goes everywhere from now on. |

| | | Re: I'm a fool Oh dear Mark. At least you know for next time. You'll have to get into the habit of taking it everywhere, even Sainsburys!!
I would have gone along to the sheep centre to take pictures. I love it there. I always buy a bag of sheep pellets to feed them. There's a duck there that likes to be cuddled too!!
You could have got a nice sheep picture for Alan or is it Jon that likes them.
I'm going to Eastbourne on Thursday, so I'll pop up to Beachy Head and take a deco at your peregrine.

ww | I saw the Sheep Centre as we drove past...........that will have to be another trip.
The Peregrine was halfway between the visitor centre and the lighthouse. There is a stepped outcrop and it was on the furthest lowest point. It may well have a nest in the area.Hope you see it. |

| | Re: I'm a fool Watch the cliffs at Beachy Head - the chalk is soft and erodes so you get overhangs (different from hangovers). That is, a ledge of unsupported chalk, just joined to real land by a teeny bit at the side but looking just fine as you walk towards it.
By the time you're looking over the edge your extra weight might be getting you down more literally than you'd imagine ... and very fast. |

I hate to admit this, but a good few years ago I went to an airshow... took my film but not my camera... how stupid is that?!

| | | Re: I'm a fool Oh yeah, good. There was once a very self-confident birder, who insisted on wandering off the track to try and photograph (wild) tigers. They say his camera had pics of one, and its teeth, getting closer and closer ... |

Ian G | I once took 2 cameras up to speyside to photograph osprey (one digi, one film)- but left all the memory cards and all but one roll of film in MK - doh
fortunately i managed to buy some 1Gb compact flash cards in inverness so all was not lost.
