Angry Fraud attempt on my card.

Message from web site.

Quote:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'D:\Program Files\Ensim\WEBppliance\SiteData\Domains\zigzag-hairstudios.com\ROOT\Users\admin@zzhs\data\mishop. mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.

/includes/config.asp, line 159

I have just had a phone call from Barclay's bank. Someone has been trying to use my debit card on a internet casino at 8pm this evening..Luckily the card I used was not my main card as there is very little money in there, and again very lucky the card
had just been renewed. So the old one got shredded. It was a lot of money they were trying to spend, but the card kept being rejected as it was just out of date..FEW.. I ordered hair straighteners from ZIG ZAG hair studios on line on the 7th March..When I try to go on their web site I get the message above..You have to be so careful when using cards over the web..
What do you think this message means. It looks to me like someone has hacked into my account..

Re: Fraud attempt on my card.

Do you have an Internet Security and Virus scan package installed on your pc?

If so, run a full scan and ensure your system is clear of trojans, keyloggers etc.

It looks like someone has managed to gert your card details from somewhere.

I hope this helps.

Dave

Sorry to hear that Kayleigh, lucky for you that you haven`t lost out.Reciepts from shops where you have used your card also make it easy to get the number. It seems that nowhere is safe from card fraud the internet, supermarket, resturants etc.Hope you get everything sorted out.

Thank you, My card was stored on Amazon and there were no transactions on that card for over 90 days as I don,t use it often..But Amazon tried to bill me yesterday with the same card.. I smell a rat there. So I have deleted all stored cards from the web I shouldn't have had them stored anyway. I will keep a close eye on my other cards..

Re: Fraud attempt on my card.

A bad do that Kayleigh and a cautionary tale alright. I have to confess, I do so much online shopping and don't give it a second thought. Saying that, I only use 'big' well known companies, like Amazon.

Regards, Chris

Re: Fraud attempt on my card.

My daughter had her entire identity stolen when she was robbed at uni. That was a couple of years ago and there are still attempts made at setting up loans etc in her name. It's a real pain as she has to prove who she is every time she needs to do a financial transaction now. She is very cautious when shopping on line and shreds everything before it's chucked out. It's a sad day and age we live in indeed.

Re: Fraud attempt on my card.

I have just put a block on my Halifax card( my main account) and I transferred £200 to a Barclay's account to use as my every day card. There will only be £200 in this account at all times. So if this happens again they will not be able to wipe out my hole account in one go. I will never use the new Halifax card so it will never be recorded any where.. I think this is the only way to secure my details in future..

Re: Fraud attempt on my card.

Happened to me last year on Amazon, bought some gift vouchers to send to France, deleted my card info as I always did afterwards, and within a week someone had ordered £700 of goods from Amazon.de. Amazon UK - nothing to do with them of course. I am with Nat West and they got all the details and gave me the money back straight way. Has made me very wary now though, won't be using Amazon again.

Hmmm sorry you had a bad experience Shirl but I very much doubt it was Amazon's fault.

Two simple things a computer user can do to help protect themself:

1) Install a good anti-virus & anti-malware programme. Run and update both regularly. I download updates on mine daily and run the programme weekly.

2) If you're going to enter personal data (e.g. credit card numbers) Never follow a link from an email unless you are 2000000% sure it is genuine. Always type the address into your browser window manually.
There will rarely be anything on a legit address after the website extension (.co.uk or .com for example).

There are probably loads of other precautions you can take, but those two are nice and easy and the quickest way you can protect yourself.

Re: Fraud attempt on my card.

Sorry to hear about this, but I too was "done over" last month. My lazy bank didn't think to check with me when my little used second account started getting daily withdrawals from overseas. Only told me when the B's finally emptied my account and I went overdrawn, and I got the bank's standard letter telling me I had no money left

Luckily as all the dodgy transactions were overseas (and I don't even have a passport) it was easy to prove they weren't mine, and they have paid all the money back, whilst they investigate.

I too tend to think my card number leaked online, so now I've got a credit card to use for internet purchases, so if it happens again, they are spending the bank's money, not mine!
