I went out to look for dippers but the brook was really moving,to my suprise a duckling went hurtling by bobbing and rotating in the strong current then was gone,as I started to climb back up the slippery bank a duck and 4 more ducklings in line astern came shooting down in the turbulent water keeping good formation but moving faster than they would like.Further upstream a single duckling peeped helplessly on a rock in mid stream,Have you ever felt helpless?

One of our regular call outs at this time of year is for ducklings going over our sluices while mummy duck stands at the top quacking impotently. I generally just scoop them up in a pond dipping net.
However last year a cygnet went over and while I was scooping it up, daddy swan got seriously irate and knocked me over the sluice on my bottom, ho hum...
