Pauline | That's a good idea Pauline, think I might need to try that over my remaining few weeks before my wonderful new life starts. Together with the loving support my fella gives me I will make it through in good shape !!
I find it really interesting how thoughts etc can help lessen pain in whatever form it takes.

| | | Re: Alternative Remedies etc There's a programme on BBC2 tonight at 9.00pm called Alternative Therapies, it's about Hypnotherapy.
"Kathy Sykes, professor of Science and Society at Bristol, examines alternative therapies in Europe and the US. Half a million people in England use hypnotherapy every year. It's claimed it can help with addiction, phobias, allergies and even breast enlargement. Kathy meets Richard, who wants to quit smoking, Nicola, who wants to eat less and Mandy, who wants teeth implants without anaesthetic. Kathy tries hypnosis herself and discovers the scientific explanation for the hypnotic trance." |

| | | Re: Alternative Remedies etc Like Badgerwatcher and PMG I use a method of ridding myself of pain. Instead of steping back I sit in a comfortable upright chair, I have a lovely high fireside chair. I put my hands on my legs, palms down.. and relax for a few moments in that position, eyes closed. Then I gradualy take the pain and ease it out of my body.. either up or down.. it doesnt seem to matter... by pushing it gently in the direction I want to go.. gathering it up as I go. I do this at about an inch a breath untill it is out of my body. I then sit a while relaxing and thinking of nothing much. Works for me!

PS Pauline.. I love the idea of using your leading hand and telling someone No.. not now... I wish I had seen this earlier as I could have used it a week or so back.

"Professor Kathy Sykes investigates traditional healing. Reflexologists claim that the body is mapped onto the soles of the feet, and that pressing particular points can help with medical problems. In Florida, Kathy meets the nephew of the woman who coined the term reflexology. She meets a reflexologist in Sheffield who claims to cure infertility. Many medical preofessionals believe that it is rubbish. But a professor in Hull says his reflexology helps cancer patients feel relaxed." |

I wish I had seen this earlier as I could have used it a week or so back. | There is an awful lot of power in your leading hand - in a very powerful and determined person you can almost see it streaming out of their palm - its a serious stopper of folk who are determined to have their own way But I am going to try your relaxation and pain removal technique as I'm fed up of too many pain killers............. I'll let you know how I get on

| | | Re: Alternative Remedies etc A friend of mine was a healer and she was really good at it. Very strange experience though - it felt like she was touching you..well sort of pressure..but her hands were not touching me at all.
This, and the whole mind thing, is something i'd be really interested in learning more about some point.

Where people had nerve damage/strokes and they had to think about reconnecting the nerves and the nerves re healed themselves..
Its all interesting stuff. |

Its all interesting stuff. | That's just reminded me of an accident years ago in which the nerves of my finger were damaged and the prognosis at the time was that they wouldn't come back. To cut a long story short I was doing conservation work with some mentally disabled people and communication went wrong somewhere and the mell came down on my finger - which was on a fence post and there was one flattened finger. the doctor said the nerves were so badly damaged they wouldn't recover but there was a nurse that was interested in alternative remedies and he suggested different thought patterns to try. Too long ago now to remember what they were but it worked - took a while but definitely worked

jaki | Yep thats interesting It would be interesting to see which of your hands came up if someone began a verbal attack on you out of the blue (like some bullies do) I've no doubt your brain would decide and a hand would rise As a matter of interest which hand undoes stubborn bottle or jar caps? My left is better for this despite writing right handed........ Maybe it doesn't matter which hand so long as one feels powerful?!
