Legend has it that the Welsh victory over the saxons was because the Welsh wore leeks on their jackets which helped them recognise each other. Whereas the Saxons spent most of the time fighting amongst themselves.
Folklore also states this is the day fleas are said to return............. |

| | | Re: St Davids Day Well, I'm taking my son David (and the rest of the family) out for a celebratory birthday meal tonight. Don't think there's any traditional food. I am looking forward to eating food I haven't had to cook.

yum yum
jaki
Bara Brith
Ingredients Method
10 oz mixed fruit
2/3 pint hot tea
3 oz soft brown sugar
Grated rind of 1 lemon
12 oz self-raising whole meal flour
1 teaspoon mixed spice
1 large egg
Soak the mixed fruit in the hot tea, cover and leave to stand overnight. Next day set oven to 350F or Mark4, and grease and line a 2lb loaf tin. Strain the fruit and reserve the liquid. Mix together the fruit with the other ingredients in a bowl, adding the reserved liquid a little at a time until a soft dropping consistency is achieved. Pour the mixture into the tin and bake for 45 - 55 minutes until risen and firm to the touch. Cool and serve sliced and buttered.

| | | Re: St Davids Day Oh, I love Welsh cakes, griddle scones, drop scones, all those things that I used to stand cooking on a griddle when the kids were small, while they sat at the table, buttering and eating as they were ready. Real comfort food. I used to put powdered cloves in griddle cakes. Mmmm!

What about a national drink? I had a conversation about this a while back and we couldn't think of anything. Obviously the jocks are known for their whisky as are the Irish and also their stout and when I think of the English it would have to be somerset scrumpy and real ale, what about Wales? |

friends most of who have expert knowledge on the subject of alcohol, and I
must confess neither myself or my friends could come up with an answer (even after several bottles of the hard stuff) (All in the persuit of answering
your question of course).
So if there are any sober Welshmen out there that can think of a national drink for Wales please let us know. |
