| | | Messed up comp Just wondered if theres any technically minded people who could help. Been having trouble with my computer thismorning. I logged on to find that all my files had disapeared and things like screen savers have gone back to the default. When i tried saving some thing and turned the computer off then on anything i had saved had been wiped.
Anyone know a way to solve this or had i better take it to a repair shop?

| | | Re: Messed up comp Do you have an up to date anti virus package installed?
If so, do a complete system scan and ensure your pc is free from virii, trojans and any other malware.
If you don't have an antivirus package installed, google for "free online virus scan" or go here: Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab
I hope this helps.

| | | Re: Messed up comp Go to Tech product reviews for cell phones, computers, MP3 players - CNET it's a computer help site. Go to tips and tricks go to cnet forums and then to computer help or viruses and security. Type in your problem and chances are somebody has already asked the question and there will be answers that may help you out. Let me know how you get on.
All the best. Badger.

| | | Re: Messed up comp I would certainly try the restore facility which is quite easy with XP, as suggested by carp angler. If that works then I would make sure the anti-virus is up to date and run it. If you have something like Spybot Search & destroy I would run that as well. If all that fails and you are not computer savy then specialist help is required. Good luck

| | | Re: Messed up comp Windows only sets restore points when you install something. Unless you know what you are doing or don't care about your data, take it to someone who knows what they are doing.
Restore points won't remove viruses or sort out disk corruption. |

| | | Re: Messed up comp My best advise is ' if you don't know, don't do ' get some competant help, or you could lose your files permanently, in the right hands it is surprising what can be retrieved. Good luck, I hope all turns out well in the end, Keith
