Tin Tent on the move

This weekend, the Lioness and I will be off to Dorset in the Puck L
Wareham is the destination for our second outing, any tips for things to watch out for?
By the way driving home tonight,I drove parallel to a Barn Owl which was hunting the verges along the verges leading into Bishop Sutton (off the
Chew Valley Lakes) what an amazing sight!

Re: Tin Tent on the move

Isle of Purbeck is, if i remember rightly a well known residence of the Dartford Warbler.. wonder if they are about at this time of year... I think there is a RSPB place there too... and of course there is Wareham Forest.. I think there is Monkey World in there too now. A few years since I have been to the area. Also Corfe Castle... all the road out to the ferry at Studland... Poole Harbour... Lulworth Cove... Durdle Door. Further round there is Chesil Beach. and oh.. whats the name of the town with The Cobb? Some nice beaches there and the possiblity of fossils!

Have a grand time in your lovely tin tent!

Lyme Regis.

You also mentioned Poole Harbour so how about Brownsea Island? Never been myself but there are still Red Squirrels there.

Unfortunately Brownsea Island isn't open at this time of year, but there should still be plenty around to see.
Is there anything you'd particularly like to see? Otherwise, all the places Jaki mentioned should be nice at this time of year, and also the RSPB reserve at Arne is a good one, lots of Sika Deer and a good place to see Dartford Warblers and Avocets, but I'll warn you that it can get incredibly busy at weekends.
I hope you have a nice weekend
Guy

Re: Tin Tent on the move

We stayed at "Hunters Moon" caravan site just outside Wareham I got into a conversation with a neighbouring vanner who was packing up to leave.
He suggested putting a feeder out he had several on a pole so we put one on the hedge behind us and within minutes had THREE Nuthatches,Long tailed tits,Coal tits, Great tits ,Green finches, and some LBJ's the chap before had a long list of birds that he had spotted and I.D-ed
There was a magnificent Cock Pheasant patrolling the grass around the top toilet block and a good collection of Owls in the evening.
We toured and walked around but apart from Gulls, Buzzards, Kestrels did not see as much action as we did out of our back window(about a metre away
first photos were awful, then the lioness cleaned the salt and chalk roadspray off the window and things improved
Downside were the many dead Badgers along the route (Bath to Wareham)
The (little) Tin Tent aroused much interest as did the Wild About Britain pennant in the back window, next outing in May (unless I can find an excuse to go before) my lovely Slapton, with its Ley and disappearing beach

Re: Tin Tent on the move

Hi nightshade.. glad you had a lovely outing in the little tin tent. Bet it was fun. What a good idea to put out a feeder there.. bet the birds are really good there too.

Only way I am going to go camping again is with a camper.. cant be doing with tents and air mattresses again at my age. I will have to win the lotto before this happens of course!!

Bats, Badgers and Owls are hopefully what we will be seeing
Rockpools are also on the menu

Re: Tin Tent on the move

Foul weather, birds scarce those that were there were difficult to identify as they were flying backwards.Even the Rooks walked down the lane from their rookery
The Badgers were frightened off by dogs but left plenty of diggings and poo
We did see what we thought might have been a Marsh Harrier but it was a drive by sighting

Rooks walking or moon walking? Badgers leaving plenty of poo - not what i see as a nice gift but i'm sure it could have been worse-better luck next time hey
