| | | virus warning This was sent to me by a freind in the police force so i thought i would let you lot know.
Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent and the moment that you open these emails your computer will crash and you will not be able to fix it!
If you get an email along the lines of 'Osama Bin Laden Captured'
or 'Osama Hanged' don't open the attachment.
This e-mail is being distributed through countries around the globe ..
Be considerate & send this warning to whomever you know.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS:
You should be alert during the next days:
Do not open any message with an attached filed called
'Invitation' regardless of who sent it.
It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts.
It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called 'invitation', though sent by a friend, do not open it and shut down your computer immediately.
This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.
This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus.
This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

However, garbled and highly inaccurate warning messages about this trojan continue to circulate. One of these messages combines a highly exaggerated warning about the Bin Laden trojan discussed here with totally false information about a non-existent "Olympic Torch" virus. These warnings do no good and should not be forwarded." Osama Bin Laden Virus Emails |

| | | Re: virus warning Yup, from the Mcafee link I posted.
"We are advising users who receive the email to delete it and DO NOT pass it on as this is how an email HOAX propagates."
Edit: This is to Mercadante post btw.

Osama Bin Laden Virus Emails | quite so - a good clue is the wording "it is better to forward this warning 25 times ...." ie this is chain letter - bin it.
that said its generally not a good idea to open any attachment sent to you by someone you dont know. particularly if its an .exe file

| | | Re: virus warning A few months ago I had an email from my bank asking me to check my details by clicking the link it provided.
When I clicked it it certainly looked like my bank but when I looked at the URL address at the top it was completely different.
I reported it to my bank and they explained that fraudsters just send out those emails in bulk and by the law of averages they will reach someone who deals with that particular bank and who hopefully will get caught out.
It made me realise how easy it is to be caught out.

Some chain letters can be fun but more often than not they are just annoying rubbish and I never forward anything that is threatening. |

the only solution is top line anti virus/ spyware software and a decent firewall.

| | | Re: virus warning I can imagine that's a pain in the backside Pete. I'm soon to find out mate, my site goes live soon! I'm very excited. I have 2 email addresses really. One of them I use for serious things and I never get junk in that one, and the other one I created so that I can apply for things without worrying about spam as such. Made sense to me |

Made sense to me | I have a whole host of hotmail, yahoo , google etc which are throwaways for one off use on registrations and what have you
then i have a work one , and a couple of long term private ones
the trick with your own biz is to have a ghost email which is forwarded to you by your web provider - that way they can filter out 99% of the dross.

Quite right. I am very protective of my couple of long term serious email accounts ,
and have a few emails I use for throaways..
As a general rule, Dont answer any email or follow any email link to your bank or anywhere that requires a secure log in. Always go from either a saved link or from a web search on google for instance. Phishing emails are responsible for nearly all web related fraud...

I now run both programmes every morning. But, before it was destroyed it had randomly picked a couple of names in my contacts list and sent msn messges to them saying "these are my latest nude pics, do you like em" lol. I emailed everyone on my msn contact list informing them not to open any message from me which said I'd sent them a pic. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | |
