... officially, around 20-30 years, one record is 50 years.
The important factor is food, they love their fruit & veg, especially greens.
Enjoy! |

Enjoy! | Thank you. Charlie does not like anything but seed i am afraid. Mind you what friut are you talking about. He is very wary of anything put in his cage and will keep clear of it.
Thanks again

Mind you what fruit are you talking about.
| Anything really, except strawberries & grapes. They ain't great fruit eaters, greens are a better bet for variety.
'Tiels' will eat almost anything you do, but stay away from milk products as they cannot digest lactose.
Mine loved bananas.
oh, and welcome to WAB. |

i have just given charlie a bit of banana ( he would not go near it when in the bars but he took it off my fingers) but he spat it out but loved my roll.
Guess he just does not bananas.
I will try different foods with him but off the finger. |

| | Re: How old can cockatiels get Yep, that is how we introduced our Teil to treats, by offering it to him ... not sure in the beginning if he was more interested in the treat, or our fingers.
Variety is the spice to life.

Tiels, like some humans, cannot digest the lactose in milk products ... but if it is only a small amount, I personally see no harm. Keep an eye on the consistency of the droppings, runny is not a good sign.
However, I would suggest looking for an alternative, like cottage cheese or a non-lactose cheese. Most cheese is, however, made from milk.
Remember, these are what I call "treats" to the birds natural diet, which is quite varied anyway. You can offer these treats once or twice a day, but don't leave a plateful in the cage all day.
You'll be surprised at what a Tiel can have and will eat, not just your fingers.
