| | | Lent I thought I would post this now to allow all you bad bad WABbers a chance to get thinking. Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. So what are you all going to be giving up?
I for one will try and stop my intake of sweets, in particular wine gums and midget gems. I know it's only a minor thing but I love them and my teeth and waist line are suffering
Over to you guys.

| | | Re: Lent Last year I gave up chocolate but this year I still have a ton of the stuff left from Christmas.... So I think I will give up crisps or cake or possibly both...... - Its has to be something I have often enough to remember I've given it up!! I've never failed because of temptation but only because I forget! |

| | | Re: Lent Hmm....Lent. Let's see....I shall be giving up chocolate. All chocolate. So that's no coco pops, Green & Blacks, chocolate brownies etc. I shall be a nervous wreck by the time Easter arrives. But its also possible I will appreciate my Lindt Bunny Rabbit much more....

| | | Re: Lent I was always told the objective of lent was to give up something very special and donate the money saved to a charity, thus enriching both body and soul!
Does this mean that if a large number of members practiced this a large number of wildlife charities (if not this one) would benefit? Just a thought.

| | | Re: Lent As a born-again atheist there is no way I'm going to get involved with religious flummery but it's not a bad idea in some ways....
I think it does help some people concentrate on what they have, what they waste, what other people/other animals/the environment suffer so this is a good way to make themselves and the world better by giving up luxuries and contributing to charities.
Doesn't really need to be on a particular week (or forty days or whatever) and, indeed, why not make it permanent? After all, for instance, someone giving up their single use of a large car on unnecessary journeys would be hitting the jackpot in three ways - not damaging the environment, saving themselves money and, thus, having a few coppers to give to deserving causes ... easy!
