Butterfly Fans

I've just received a butterfly book that I've had on order for a while now. British and Irish Butterflies- Adrian M. Riley. It's a superb book to have if you're keen on getting around to see as many of the species as possible, then it's a must. Habitat, colour shots, clear English, grid references-the lot. This will keep me going through the summer.
Just thought you might like to know.

I've just received mine as well and agree with your assessment and similarly look forward to using it this summer.

The other similar book I find useful is:

Discover Butterflies in Britain by D E Newland ISBN 1-90365712-1

Altho I have quite a lot of butterfly books already I quite like the looks of this - I like the idea of the chap having worked on it for so long and the extra info on species and where best to look when you really want to see that certain something - think it will be on my to buy list too

Re: Butterfly Fans

Steve (Fourwings) told me about this book earlier today. It's one I'm definitely going to get. Last year I saw two Meadow Browns that puzzled me, seeing that there's four sub species I knew nothing about, that could explain it. Non of the books I've got show any differences.
