| | | Swimming......... Nothing to do with wildlife (so I suppose I should have gone back and found the 'what else do you do beside wildlife thread')........... but yesterday at work (rangering away I was at the Flash as usual) when a wrong phonecall from a member of the public let me know that the swimming pool in the new Leigh Sports Village had opened........... Gosh! That's been quick - I pass it two and several times a day as its a stones throw from home and work and all I could see was on-going building site chaos.
So I make enquiries to get their phone number (cos Directory Enq keeping giving out the Country Park - our - number wrongly, then at least I can redirect people with the correct number). And simultaneously decided that I should go swimming again - having no excuse it being so convenient......... We are being bombarded via the news, telly progs etc etc about obesity - even my own employers with there new Be Alive Logo - Get Wigan Fit Scheme etc.
But could I buy a swimsuit to fit ............ ah now that's a different story. I tried several places (all with racks of size 8, 10 and 12's) I wish they'd get real The new pool has a dress code naturally - swimwear only - and despite my wanting to wear a Lycra crop top and tight fitted cycling shorts I was told no. I didn't shout at them cos rules are rules - but I was grumbling to myself about getting fit and not being able to cos I couldn't get a cozzy to fit...........
Anyway I went into my local Superstore on the way home who sell (........ Clooney) stuff and low and behold - beckoning to me from a top shelf was a black cozzy (in the 20's+ range is all I'm prepared to admit to here ) and in 45 mins I shall be going into the water for the first time in ten years............ Am I excited - I sure am! But if I don't post on here again you can assume I've drowned Oooooo Errrrrrr Am I scared too - a little bit but this is the start of something smaller I hope!!!!!!

| | | Re: Swimming......... I love swimming but don't get to go as often as I'd like. I got my children into it as young as I could and they also love the water. My son, though Autistic has just done his 200 metres swim badge which made me really proud.
Well done Pauline for taking the plunge. I agree with you on swimwear, they only sell it at certain times of the year too.

I think the last time I went swimming was when I jumped of the roof of a barge along the Thames somewhere............. |

| | | Re: Swimming......... Love swimming but have a boyant bum They are still rebuilding our local pool, you couldn't drown in the old one, used to scape your knees on the bottom when you were halfway through a length! Still plenty of time to slim into my cossie (provided it hasn't rotted in the drawer) like you PMG would like to cover as much white skin as pos. And why on ladies nights do they still have male lifeguards? |

Wot are you lot like
I'm hoping to get to the two adult only sessions this week and actually burn a few calories and energise myself now that I've got over my nervousness about going into the water.
Funnily enough cos its been my long week part of the shift and then things going wrong - emergency trips to the dentist - visiting an old friend who's husband has died - its been a busy week. Instead of arriving at my one weekend in 7 off refreshed and ready for action - all my energy had gone and yesterday I had the same kind of day I had on the Priory meet - no energy - totally flat ....... as they say lifes a beach and then you die
Roll on Fri Sat - some energy and better weather on order
