| | | boat I guess this may be a question for you boating people or anglers out there!! (or potentially wildlife rescuers). I often do Water Vole surveys or general surveys of bodies of water (like gravel pits) best (or sometimes only) accessed by boat and every year I'm scratching around trying to find a boat for hire in the area. Does anyone know of a cheapish sturdy small row boat (dingy?) to buy that can be slung in the back of an estate car that might be suitable for the job? |

| | | Re: boat Sounds like some sort of inflatable might be ok Gill, as far as portability goes. You can get compressors or pumps to inflate them that can be plugged into a socket in your car.

| | | Re: boat yeah I'm thinking that might be the answer mayby--- I have a feeling though that the width of the inflatable bit might make it difficult to reach out to the bank. I saw a perfect kind of boat on a fishing lake last week but the lake owner was given it so he doesn't know where I might get another it was like a little green fiberglass or plastic thing ....
oh I don't know..... |

| | | Re: boat Where abouts are you Gill, I know you said chedworth but where's that ? If you are in the MK bucks northants area I could probably arrange for you to borrow or hire very cheaply our Avon Redstart. - This is a max two person inflatable, its pretty old but it does the job nicely and we dont use it much. We have used this for Newt and vole survey before - it was the boat I fell out of during the aquatic buhda episode I mentioned yesterday.
we also have an Avon Rover which seats six but this is a lot more valuable and we use it a lot more so we are less likely to be able to hire it out.
If you are interested PM me and i'll send you my propper email and work phone number and we can sort something out.

| | | Re: boat Another option might be a wave ski, these are like a cross between a surfboard and a canoe, they are cheap (comparitvly so), light (ditto), and offer easy access to the bank. cauntion they are very easy to fall off, as I know from personal experience.
