| | Dog Muck (slight rant) Ok, it's not very nice on the sole of your shoe, but it's generally biodegradable, and I have eyes not to step in it (particularly at the beginning of a walk where it's inevitably at its worst).
True, it's not exactly hygienic (but then neither is bird mess - it's just smaller).
So why do people "clean up" after their dogs, and consider it better to leave the bags in the undergrowth? This way it doesn't degrade AND it litters the place! AND there's just soooo much of it around certain local parks.
Bah!
(I know, I'm preaching to the converted, but i'd rather see dog mess than the dog mess & plastic bags). |

| | | Re: Dog Muck (slight rant) I know. Maybe they pick it up with good intentions then can't find a poo bin. This has happened to me. But I had the decency to bring the offending poo home and put it in my bin.
We really do need more bins or at least not get a fine when there are no bins to found.
Incidentally if there are no bins around and it is in the country I leave it be. If it is in a town I bring it home. |

| | | Re: Dog Muck (slight rant) Around where I live the same thing happens. On the Dorset Heathland nearby it is a big problem, as the nutrients from the dog mess actually change the types of plants that are growing, and the strength/growth of the plants. It's changing the actual habitat!
Countryside or town I would urge you to take your dogs mess home (whether there is a bin or not). I often walk in the countryside, and am fed up of the amount of mess on the verges, fields and paths.... Please keep the environment nice for us "non" dog owners as well... Thanks. |

| | | Re: Dog Muck (slight rant) i had a problem with this on the trails i look after...yes i would rather see a dog doing it off the path in the wood than have some owners bag it and leave it in the car park. it does eventually get washed away leaving nothing . i approached the local council and they provided two bins for the purpose of disposal and are emptyed on a regular basis. if any one feels strongly about this issue approach the landowner and see if the same can't be implemented

| | | Re: Dog Muck (slight rant) I personally would rather see the poo safely in a bag (even if it is unsightly)than left on the floor in the meadow where school groups and kids parties go bug hunting and come into contact with it. Sure it may wash away but that might be after some poor kid goes blind |

| | | Re: Dog Muck (slight rant) On Sunday I was walking near to Bolton Abbey in a delectable bit of woodland near to the river. Trundling along, I saw something rather strange-bright orange and about the size of a fist- hanging in the tree by the path about 4 metres up.
What was it? A giant kingfisher facing me? No-a bag of dog muck that someone had obviously thrown up hard, trying to get it into the undergrowth at the bottom of the slope. Caught in the tree, it resembled an obscene Christmas tree bauble. I would have taken it down, but I am not 4 metres tall . At least in the undergrowth, it would have rotted. Now, I bet I shall be seeing it for a long time to come.
It really does annoy me how people can go out of their way to go to the countryside, and then just completely abuse it by spoiling it for others. Plus the wood is an SSSI! I think people must expect the same amenities, i.e. dog mess bins, to be evenly disributed throughout the land, regardless of how remote it is. |

| | Re: Dog Muck (slight rant) I know what you mean but we moved to an area where there was no bin provided so the dog owners just let thier dogs do wherever, which turned a bit in to an obstacle course, my daughter who was then 8 wrote a letter to the local MP who immediately had bins and signs put up all over the place. A victory for my daughter but alas I think they must only be visible to certain people. But I think if the poop is going to be left where it's not going to be stepped in that's fine but at the end of the day a walk is supposed to be pleasurable to the walker and it is nice to be able to look up and around rather than down all the time, but hey ho it's no bother to me at least you get to do that fantastic dance when you are scraping it off. lol.

Please don't stop us having a rant....
If you find it boring... just don't read it... simple...

Oh, by the way "please take your dog mess home" | Aye, precisely.
As an experienced forum goer (ex of a popular motorcycle forum), we had this all the time.
There are a number of forum master-led things that can be done - e.g. frequent topics sticky, etc.. So I agree with Tigger entirely. |

Pick up and take home ALL dog mess... please | I've discussed this many times on WAB but felt I had to respond. I read the article and felt very angered that a young girl should suffer like this. I'm a mother of 3 children, 11, 9 and 5 yrs. I would be devastated if this happened to my child. I'm also the owner of 2 Dogs which are wormed regularly with a wormer prescribed by my vet. I also remove all dog mess and dispose of it properly. I wish everyone was as responsible but sadly they're not and I do my fair share of whinging when out and about as I'm always having to step over it and warn my children about it. I don't blame anyone for getting annoyed.
