The thing, really, is not how many pictures you've taken but how many of them were any good? . In my case, not a lot! For December (2007) I have retained 97 pictures (and half of them are rubbish) out of goodness knows how many snaps .... yes, photography is harder in the winter but even in the summer there's a lot of waste .... but with digital you can take that wastage and that risk! |

| | | Re: I had my camera exactly 1 year today... I obviously take a lot. I'm in the privileged position to be able to take shots just about everyday. You never know which one will be the good one.
Take when I did a spell taking water close ups. In a couple of days I'd taken over 1,500 shots. In the end I'd got about 10 which were OK. If I hadn't taken 1500, I wouldn't have got the good ones as they were some of the very last ones I took.
So quantity can have a bearing on quality, in certain circumstances.
I'm a persistent so and so. I don't give up until I've got what I want. If that means taking thousands of shots, so be it, I enjoyed every one! |

I'm struggling to work out how many I've taken because it's split across 2 cameras. I also switched CF cards from one camera to the other (without re-formatting them) which totally threw the numbering out. If my sums are correct, I think I took around 6,000 last year.

I tend toward the thinking that there is usually one decisive moment that can make a picture that bit special, and tend to spend more time watching than taking, in the hope that I can capture that fleeting moment, when it comes off I am more than happy with one good shot. Although my camera is capable of in excess of six frames a second I have rarely used it on multi exposure except for in flight shots, and then only occasionally, in consequence I can be out for a whole day and only take about a dozen shots but it still gives me great pleasure, and for me that is what it is all about. Each to their own Eh.

My standards are low and I have 900ish photos on my flickr site but some of them are heavily cropped >600 pixels across images, which look fine as a small image on a website. As for how many are of a high standard...well i really must got through and pick out my best ones |

| | | Re: I've had my camera exactly 1 year today... I can only go off the number of macro shots I took last year, which was around 10,000, of which I kept approx 7,000. I lost track of the other shots I took.
I think both Graham`s, and Blackbrook Eye`s approaches both have their merits - restricting yourself to shooting at THE right time can improve your skills, but Grahams approach of taking however many shots are required to get the desired result is one of the beauties of digital, and allows us to try things we`d never attempt if we were still having to shoot with film (unless you had a bottomless bank account ).
