What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

My membership to the Wild Fowl and Wetlands Trust has just expired,
which set me thinking.We have membership of;
Bat Conservation Trust
Wildlife Trust
Woodland Trust
R.S.P.B
What is the best way do you think to spend your hard earned money to do
the best for our wildlife.
These are ALL excellent and necessary organisations BUT if you could only support one which one??

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

EEks thats a hard choice....... I would go for the Wildlife Trust as I think this covers all areas of wildlife and doesnt just specialise in one or two things.

RSPB, Kent WT and BTO. I will stick with the RSPB and KWT in the long term and try to buy bird food etc through them for further support.

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

I think the answer has to be The Wildlife Trusts. The reason because they are local to You. Your membership money will make a difference to your local wildlife and nature reserves. There is also the oppertunity to volunteer with them as well and make a bigger impact. Not all the volunteers are cutting down trees or digging ponds, there are lots of others who recruite more volunteers and write up survey results etc.

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

yes my list is quite long, might have to thin it out a bit at some point in the future!

If I had to pick one it would be the WWT because they gave me early inspiration and love for birds as I was taken as a child many times, they gave me my first break and chance to try working with wildlife through work experiance and when I actually had a job they let me go over and use their library for free which was fantastic. So through gratitude, loyalty and admiration for their work it would be them.

The Woodland Trust because it's providing prime habitat. Habitat loss is the biggest threat to wildlife ....

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

I am a member of ....

RSPB
Essex Wildlife Trust
Essex Birdwatching Society
World Wildlife Fund
Welsh Kite Trust
Wild About Britain

If I was forced to choose (please don't make me), I would stay a member of WAB (it's free ) plus the Essex Wildlife Trust.

The Wildlife Trusts have an interest in all wildlife and habitat issues and they are about doing the internationally and nationally important things at a local level.

Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust only and volunteer with them on a local nature reserve. I donate to the RSPB although I'm not a member.

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

I belong to the RSPB, WWT, Cheshire Wildlife Trust, English Nature & The National Trust. If I'm heading into an area on holiday for a couple of weeks, I will sometimes join that county Wildlife Trust to give me access to their reserves where there is no public access.

With the larger organisations, not only is there access, but frequently a cafe and toilets, which can be extremely useful.

I don't belong to the Wildlife Trust of my own county, as I'm not that impressed with what they do.

If I had to choose one, it would be the RSPB, since I really enjoy birding on their reserves, although I am very critical of some of their operations - especially their optical retail, which charges way over the odds.

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

I'm a member of many (+ tempted by others but have to call a halt somewhere!). Here goes: RSPB, BTO, WWT, London Wildlife Trust, London Natural History Society, Selborne Society, Butterfly Conservation, British Dragonfly Soc, Plantlife, Botanical Society of British Isles + Wildflower Society.

If I was restricted to one it would be LNHS as they have events every weekend in my area +it's like an extended family!

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

We belong to the RSPB and the Woodland Trust but I think if I had to choose one only it would be the Woodland Trust. This organisation protects ancient forests which once lost cannot be replaced. It also plants new woods. I feel that this provides and protects habitat for all kinds of wildlife especially birds.

Re: What Wildlife Organisations Do You Belong To

My memberships include:- RSPB, BTO, Hawk and Owl Trust, Wildlife Trust, Woodland Trust, National Trust and RHS (the latter not strictly 'wildlife' I know but does a lot to encourage wildlife gardening)

I wouldn't want to choose between them and, thankfully, don't have to

I couldn't agree more and would go for either the Campaign to Protect Rural England or the National Trust.
