Miss technically challenged needs help again, sorry! I'm trying to have a pc to pc chat with a friend on msn. When i press the phone icon followed by the 'learn more' link it brings me to a page where it says to sign up press the 'learn more' button...and guess what...! All roads seem to lead to this loop what am i doing wrong?! 
Also - on facebook (i'm new to it!) what are you doing if you poke somebody?!...I know i'm asking for silly comments now but...?!

I gather you have downloaded or installed the latest version of msn messenger? ( or windows live messenger i think its called)?....
Now....your pc to pc chat...there are a few versions...
the basic that most use is typing to each other in messenger....you type a line...hit enter...they reply with a line....hit enter....you reply back etc
stage two is chatting in the same way ( typing) but you can see each other on your webcams? ( if you have them?)
stage three is to do away with the typing....and chat on webcams with sound..you need a microphone/cam or headset mic....this is in effect a phone conversation with pictures ( and free )
or if you dont have cam i believe you can chat with sound by connecting to phones or pc ( which i guess is what your doing?)
all these are possible with msn messenger provided you have a cam and or a mic...and have installed the latest version..
once you BOTH have all this in place you just simply click on the name of your friend then in the box that opens click on the phone icon and i think it says "call computer" or if you have cam click the "Video Call" icon....
is this what you meant?...
poking in facebook is nothing more than giving them a poke ...usually to let them know your online etc....the online feature is the one thing most people dont know about?....click the little arrow next to the "friends" tag at the top to see whos online

webcam - NO WAY!!!! it's the chatting with mic and headphones but - it wont let me - says i need to sign up but wont get me to a link where i can do that. Typing chatting fine!
okay poking's not too intrusive then?!

so you do have windows live messenger installed?....
hmmm...you should just click and it calls your friend ( provided they have the latest version installed)...
have you installed your sound/headphones/ mic correctly?
also make sure your both showing as "Online" and not "away" or "Busy" etc

yep - installed it last week. It wont let me call out and can't get incoming either. Mic and headphones installed okay too - did the sound check things. Just keep getting to the loop where it says press 'learn more' to sign up?!

Hmmm? sing up to what?...you have already installed live messenger....
when i click the phone icon i dont get any option like that? i just get...call computer or call phone ( or call mobile if they have added their mobile) ?
i take it your on broadband?

i take it your on broadband? | yeah - on broadband but it's not the fast one. Just says to sign up to the service...? can't tell you much more cause all roads lead to that link! I get the phone pad but you can't use it until...have a guess!

Facebook poking: the more you poke the more options it gives you ie have a drink with,hug bake a cake etc.Like you I didn`t like the sound of it but it`s actually quite useful when you don`t want to write a full message. |
