Just back from Norfolk so bare with me.

Hi Folks

Just back from a two week stint in Norfolk. Saw 141 species of birds, had a fantastic time, plenty of photos to edit and records to put on my PC. Plenty of memorable moments.

I will be busy editing all my photos (i have put a few in the gallery already) as well as updating my records on my PC so I apologise if I am not too active for a while.

BTW the site looks great. Seems to have been looked after well whilst I was on hols.

John

Welcome back John. We've lost 2 prominent members while you've been away so it's nice to have you back with us!

I look forward to hearing your tales and seeing some of your shots.

Matt

Hi Alan

There is no way I will do a complete report of my trip. There would be far too much to write about. Don't forget I saw 141 different species and visited quite a few places. Walked many miles, saw some incredible sights but I would never have the time to write it all up.

When I have finisheed editing all the photos (and I am not even a quarter of the way through yet) and updated my bird records I will see what I can do. I should imagine that I will just recount some of the better moments in the holiday but it could be a while yet before I can do even that.

I am putting in photos into the gallery as I go along though, so you can get a flavour of some of the birds seen.

John

That'll do for me John, but maybe a 'short' report, just for me!

By the way, unfortunately the two members are digi and glsammy

sorry John, I thought you may have seen the relevant threads, although obviously there's a lot to catch up on after 2 weeks. The 2 threads are;

Thanks for that Matt

I am shocked to say the least and have put my replies to both threads. I haven't had the time to look at the forum as a whole, only those threads that I have submitted to. I had over 300 e-mails on my return and have been through all of them and will now concentrate on my photos.

I have just put a few more photos in the gallery if you want to take a look.

John

Re: Just back from Norfolk so bare with me.

It is very unfortunate John. Even a vibrant forum such as this, with over 1500 members, inevitably relies heavily on the contributions of a few key individuals. I respect their decisions to leave, although I have no idea what lies behind these decisions. There is the suggestion of some internal politics which is unfortunate to say the least. I hope there is the possibility that one or both of them reconsiders and at least continues to be a member of WAB if not a moderator.

Thankfully Graham is staying as a member. I just hope that Kev reconsiders and comes back.

BTW I have just found out that all the images I posted last night have been lost so I will have to repost them again. Boy, I need that extra work just now.

Didn't get the Osprey but a female Dotterel dropped into Foulden which was 8 miles away from where we were staying on our 2nd week. Needless to say that we via Foulden on our way to the property and saw it.

It is a good count but when you think that Nuthatch and Goldcrest were only seen and not heard, also missed a Peregrine, plus I must have almost stood on the toes of a Golden Pheasant and not saw it, also a Nightjar was churring two nights in a row and I heard it's flight call right by me and still didn't see it plus missing out for the first time on Minsmere's Bitterns (despite one booming almost under the Bittern Hide) and a few other near misses and I could have gone well past 150 quite easily with a bit more luck.

Still I am well satisfied with 141 seen.

John

Re: Just back from Norfolk so bare with me.

Welcome back John.

It sounds like you had a terrific holiday in Norfolk. May is an exceptionally good month but 141 different species is some haul. I look forward to more posts and photos regarding your trip.

Richard
