| | | Whos Cooking what for Christmas As Christmas is looming and my thoughts are turning towards the great christmas cooking marathon, I wondered would everyone cooks different for christmas and perhaps swap ideas..
I shall be making Game pies and Pork pies and also Boiled brisket of beef that I shall brine/Pickle for 10 days first. My good lady has already done the Christmas cake and will be doing a white christmas cake later....I am nearly drooling already...

I have the pleasure of working over christmas (both on the day itself, and boxing day) -my, er... good lady (to quote you!) will be up at her parents with her family, so I'll have to make do with some mince pies in the office on my own...
(Can you hear those violins now, sob sob)!

Ordered the turkey yesterday, going for around about a 4Kilo bird which should do the 5 of us.
Not sure on what to do for a starter yet, any ideas? |

| | | Re: Whos Cooking what for Christmas My old man is working Xmas day so rather than eat alone I intend to visit my Mum first in the morning for her Xmas dinner (whatever it is), then visit my Dad early afternoon for his Xmas dinner (whatever it is) and finally visit my sister in the evening for their Xmas dinner (whatever it is) as they all live within 5 miles of me
No seriously, our Xmas dinner will be on Boxing day and we're going to stick to the traditional free-range turkey (however much it's going to cost this year) Yum!

| | | Re: Whos Cooking what for Christmas Off to the Outlaws. . . . err sorry, Inlaws (damn that was close, the wife was watching) for Christmas. They do the usual, turkey crown with all the trimmings but I will be taking my own homemade horseradish sauce for the beef on boxing day, made fresh on xmas eve.

If all goes to plan I am cooking for 12 this year and I'll be doing a turkey crown with all the trimmings and a glazed gammon. |

Will also be making some cheese balls soon, Grate a load of Cheddar & Red Leicester and mix with some cream cheese, shape into a ball and roll in chopped nuts. (you can add garlic/herbs or whatever tickles your pickle) |

| | | Re: Whos Cooking what for Christmas for Boxing Day South American bake and salsa with a tropical salad thing. We substitute quorn for the chicken but it absorbs the flavours better any way. oh yes and Christmas Day i have to cook an organic turkey think Sean would divorce me if I didn't! - it's the only time he gets meat though, so! The best day is Yule and a chocolate chestnut log cake (no bake sort) - yummy!!
You picked the short one there TBR - bad luck!!

| | | Re: Whos Cooking what for Christmas As Christmas dinner is my big treat for the year, I will be kicking all the 'healthy eating' into touch and have bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, frying steak, all soaked in onion gravy with a side helping of fried bread, all washed down with a couple of pints of bottled Guiness

We had that recipe the last saturday... Its so much nicer without the liver pate of the usual beef wellington , Try mixing some porcini mushrooms with the fresh ones before you fry it off, and add the liquid you soaked the dried porcini in back to the frying pan and boil of the liquid so all the flavour gos back into them,,,,, mmmm

| | | Re: Whos Cooking what for Christmas Christmas Eve will probably be salmon wrapped in parma ham on a bed of puy lentils and spinach, then on the day itself ducks (or sea bass for the non-meat eaters) with braised red cabbage (with onion and apple and various spices) and pear and cranberry relish, which I must get made later this week. Oh, and as many roast parsnips as I can cram into the roasting tin. I'd eat them with everything. |
