| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys Yeah, this is terrible. I am so surprised Monkey World, (near Bovington in Dorset) didn't offer to take them in? I read somewhere, that Newquay said they had contacted 24 different zoos in the hope of re-homing them. Wonder what the true story is? |

| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys I don't think they have broken the law, but it's a tragic outcome that I feel could have been avoided, if these other places had been notified. |

| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys This sort of thing happens alot more often than is publicly known. I know of a certain zoo that I can not name that euthanises certain animals that are captive bred there as they are considered surplus. Now why these excess animals that are not dangerous are not sold on to private keepers is beyond me . Surely the more minds studying a certain species the more we will learn |

| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys you mean to say they can do this and get away with it,i think that is all wrong, i thought there was some sort of protection to stop this from happening, so any tom dick or harry can bump animals off if there in the way, that is disgusting. |

| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys Hi naturelover,
Well it would seem so unfortunately . The animals I mention are tortoises and were they cute little mammals i'm sure they'd be more people kicking off about it . The wrong thing to do whether it be mammal bird reptile ... but sadly we know that there is more sympathy for the fuzzies. |

| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys Tortoises are worth hundreds! And I think they have quite a big following despite not being furry - perhaps thanks to blue peter - but whatever lots of people like them it suprises me that they'd be euthanised! |

I know it just doesn't make sense does it. Let's just put it this way , this zoo is known for specialising in endangered species (You can all guess , I don't want to get into trouble for blabbing) .Perhaps they have their justified reasons for this but I for the life of me cannot work out what that reason could be |

| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys Heard some bad stuff about zoos in my time but this takes the biscuit. I find it hard to believe that Monkey world in Dorset would not take them in. I'm sure it could have been avoided.

| | | Re: Newquay zoo puts down monkeys They'd have to be pretty hard cruel people not to try everything? You don't generally work at a zoo or become a keeper unless you love animals....
I find these stories hard to believe - not that animals are put down but that they didn't try everything they could before it happened.....
presumably even monkey world has a maximum capacity..... | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
