Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

Its that time of year again and I have been trying to think of good ideas for christmas presents for someone who loves taking pictures and looking at nature, just like all of us and it suddenly dawned on me that a thread on here would probably provide me with some good ideas? I would welcome any ideas thank you

It would depend what end of the market you were looking at and maybe what their sense of humour was?!

If it was me I'd like a new lens, binoculars or camera bag

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

Magazine subscriptions are surprisingly good presents - never thought I'd appreciate it that much until I got one last year!

The other thing is a few days away in a place at a certain time of year that a certain thing they love happens.

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

On my Christmas list that I am sending to Santa are a webcam, a new tripod and a new camera bag. Not likely to get them all though! Any one of them would be nice.

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

Last year I bought my mum (who has Parkinson's and doesn't zoom around at top speed like she used to) a nest box camera. It cost a stack more than I normally spend on anyone at Christmas, but I felt she deserved it, and I can without doubt say it was the best pressie I've ever bought. She has had so much pleasure out of it!

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

what i would love is one of those good camras with a good zoom in,mine is ok but you cant get the detail that some of you are able to get,it would have to be a digi because i like to download on the computer,so much quicker its easy as well with my photoe program,my camra has a zoom but its not that good for getting good closeups, trouble is there so dear so i dont supose i will ever get one,i would also be pleased with anything to do with wildlife,or even plants for in and out,not fussy realy,i am pleased with most things anyway.

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

If they're not already members, how about signing them up in the local wildlife trust. Most counties have
one.

Last year we got a young nephew (8yrs) a years subscription to the RSPB young 'uns branch.

Mum bought my kids an RSPB (or YOC) membership, and they've loved the magazine. Well worth it!

Hehe! Cazzie's on her bandwagon.... I've a great idea!

Why not pay for your loved one to be a fully paid-up member of the BHPS for a year - it's rediculously cheap! and you could also make a donation at the same time should you wish too! By doing this you'll also know that you're helping out the society with their good work to preserve our spikey friends and there's many a 'hoggie' bargain to be had in their catalogue as well!

British Hedgehog Preservation Society BHPS

Failing that, why not sponsor/adopt a Red Squirrel!?!

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

A friend got me a present for Xmas a couple of years that was great.. she adopted a Fox in my name for me..The money helped to pay towards its care etc for a year. I think if you do a web search you can do this for most wildlife.

Another good prezzie if they like to get out and about is a years National Trust membership.. You can get couple ones if you want a combined present.

That's a great site there, just added it to my faves. Not great when it comes to hoggie info so should make good reading, thanks.

In the past I have got people niger feeders and seed, bird boxes and bee/insect boxes. Each present came to less than a tenner and have given hours of pleasure so far.

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

Plenty of books that combine photography and wildlife.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year: Portfolio 17 is available in hardback and, of course, includes WAB member Wolfhill's outstanding winning entry of a sparrowhawk.

Re: Christmas Presents for Nature Lovers

An idea that I have discovered is that the Raptor Centre in Ringwood in the New Forest does photgraphy days where they either hold the session in the centre with all the birds flying in their arena or they take a couple birds out into the New Forest and a professional photographer advices how to get the best photos of birds of prey. It is only about ?35 per person and the photos on display in their cafe are brilliant.
Liberty's Raptor and Reptile Centre in Ringwood

Thank you so much for all your really good ideas they are definately giving me some food for thought, infact it has even inspired me for presents for other family members other than the person I was originally thinking of when I started the thread. Keep the ideas coming and I might end up sorting the whole present list out with your ideas!!
